Nous nous étions rencontrés au collège, sans vraiment nous connaître. Pour moi, il n’était qu’une connaissance parmi d’autres ; une présence bruyante et envahissante dans le décor gris de mon adolescence. Lui, extraverti et solaire, moi, retranché dans mon silence. À l’époque, il m’exaspérait. Son rire trop fort résonnait dans les couloirs, sa façon de coller aux gens, ses grands gestes dramatiques, cette positivité agaçante, presque insolente même quand tout allait mal… Il souriait tout le temps, lançait des blagues à tout-va, comme si le monde était une scène. Quatre ans plus tard, le hasard nous a réunis à l’université. Ce qui m’irritait autrefois m’a soudain charmé. Ce garçon que je trouvais insupportable s’était glissé sous ma peau. Sa lumière, son énergie et sa joie constante, que je fuyais jadis, étaient devenues les seules choses que je cherchais. Oui, j’ai fini par tomber éperdument amoureux de celui qui m’exaspérait tant.
