THE BRACELET

Sarah was only seven years old when she lost everything.

She was the only child of loving and wealthy parents. She had never known hunger, fear, or loneliness. Her parents gave her everything she wanted, but more than their money, they gave her something much more precious—a happy childhood.

But her seventh birthday, October 11, was different.

That morning, her parents surprised her with a beautifully wrapped gift.

“Open it, sweetheart,” her mother said with a pretty smile.

Sarah tore the wrapping paper away.

Inside was a beautiful gold bracelet.

Her father gently placed it around her tiny wrist.

“Happy birthday, princess.”

Sarah looked at it for a few seconds.

Then she frowned.

“I don’t like it.”

Her parents looked at each other and laughed.

“You don’t like it?” her father asked.

Sarah shook her head.

“I wanted a doll.”

Her mother smiled and kissed her forehead.

“Okay. Since our birthday girl doesn’t like her gift, let’s go somewhere else.”

“Where?”

“Your favorite restaurant.”

Sarah’s eyes immediately lit up.

“Really?”

“Really.”

She hugged both of her parents.

She was happy.

She didn’t know that within a few hours, her entire world would disappear.

The car was returning from the restaurant when everything changed.

A vehicle suddenly came from the opposite direction.

There was a terrible crash.

Glass shattered.

Metal twisted.

And then everything went silent.

Sarah survived.

Her parents did not.

When Sarah opened her eyes in the hospital, she asked the same question again and again.

“Where is my mother?”

No one answered.

“Where is my father?”

Still nothing.

Finally, someone told her the truth.

Sarah was only seven years old.

She couldn’t understand what death meant.

She only understood that her parents weren’t coming back.

From that day on, she became an orphan.

Sarah’s uncle and aunt took her with them.

They also became responsible for her inheritance.

At first, Sarah believed she had found another family.

But that feeling didn’t last long.

Her uncle developed a serious addiction.

He began spending money on drugs and gambling.

Soon, Sarah’s inheritance started disappearing.

One day, her uncle lost a huge amount of money gambling.

There was almost nothing left.

Then another tragedy happened.

Sarah’s aunt was eight months pregnant when she lost her baby.

Instead of accepting the tragedy, she searched for someone to blame.

And she blamed Sarah.

“Ever since you came here, nothing good has happened to us,” she said.

Sarah stared at her with frightened eyes.

“But I didn’t do anything.”

Her aunt turned away.

“You are unlucky.”

Sarah didn’t understand why everyone was angry with her.

She was only a child.

A year later, Sarah’s aunt gave birth to a baby girl.

She named her Rubaca.

But even after Rubaca’s birth, the family’s problems continued.

Her uncle’s addiction became worse.

Their debts became impossible to pay.

Eventually, they had to sell their house.

With nowhere else to go, they moved into Sarah’s old family home.

It was the house Sarah had once shared with her parents.

One afternoon, while walking through the house, Sarah suddenly saw something familiar.

A small golden bracelet.

Her bracelet.

The same bracelet that her parents had given her on her seventh birthday.

Sarah’s face immediately lit up.

She picked it up and held it against her chest.

She remembered her father’s smile.

She remembered her mother’s voice.

For Sarah, the bracelet was no longer just jewelry.

It was the last thing her parents had given her.

She put it around her wrist.

Whenever she felt lonely, she looked at it and imagined her parents were still beside her.

But her aunt noticed it.

She knew the bracelet was valuable.

One night, while Sarah was sleeping, her aunt quietly entered the room.

She looked at the sleeping child.

Then she looked at the bracelet.

She removed it from Sarah’s wrist.

The next morning, Sarah woke up and immediately noticed it was gone.

She searched everywhere.

Under her pillow.

Under the bed.

Inside her clothes.

Nothing.

“My bracelet!”

She began crying.

Her aunt shouted at her.

“Stop crying!”

But Sarah couldn’t stop.

That bracelet was the only thing she had left from her parents.

Her aunt had already sold it to a jeweler.

A month later, Sarah went to the market with her aunt.

As they passed a jewelry shop, Sarah suddenly stopped.

Her heart began beating faster.

Behind the glass display,

Her bracelet.

She knew it immediately.

The jeweler had placed it among the most expensive pieces.

Sarah stared at it.

Her aunt was standing outside.

The jeweler was busy with his paperwork.

Sarah quietly entered the shop.

Because she was small, the jeweler didn’t notice her.

Sarah reached toward the display.

She grabbed the bracelet.

Then she quickly slipped it onto her wrist.

For the first time in weeks, she smiled.

She had her parents back.

At least, that’s what the bracelet made her feel.

But the jeweler soon discovered it was missing.

He called the police.

They checked the shop’s CCTV footage.

The police saw Sarah taking the bracelet.

And they followed the footage to her home.

When Sarah’s aunt found out, she became furious.

“You stole from the jeweler!”

Sarah cried.

“No! It’s mine!”

“Don’t lie!”

“My parents gave it to me!”

But nobody listened.

Sarah’s aunt was already angry with her.

She beat Sarah, then made a decision.

She took the little girl to an orphanage.

Sarah stood at the entrance, terrified.

“Auntie…”

Her aunt walked away.

“Auntie, please don’t leave me!”

But the woman didn’t turn around.

The door closed.

Sarah was alone again.

She was only nine years old.

And once again, she had lost her family.

Another year passed.

Sarah remained in the orphanage.

Meanwhile, Rubaca had started crawling.

One afternoon, Rubaca crawled around the house while her mother was washing dishes in the kitchen.

The little girl moved toward a large tub filled with water.

She began playing beside it.

Then she leaned forward.

Before anyone noticed, Rubaca fell into the water.

Her mother was in the kitchen and heard nothing.

By the time she discovered what had happened, it was too late.

Rubaca was dead.

Sarah’s aunt had now lost her husband, her money, her home, and both of the children who had been part of her life.

She was completely alone.

The loneliness became unbearable.

One day, she made a decision.

She would go to an orphanage and adopt a child.

Perhaps having someone to love would fill the emptiness inside her.

She went to an orphanage.

She had no idea that fate had already chosen the child for her.

At that time, Sarah had been transferred to another orphanage.

The same orphanage her aunt had entered.

The staff brought several children forward.

Sarah walked into the room.

Her aunt looked up.

And froze.

For a moment, neither of them moved.

Sarah had changed.

She was older now.

But her face was unmistakable.

It was Sarah.

The little girl she had abandoned.

The little girl she had blamed for everything.

The little girl she had sent away.

Her aunt’s eyes filled with tears.

“Sarah…”

Sarah looked at her silently.

Her aunt couldn’t hold herself back anymore.

She walked toward Sarah and pulled her into her arms.

Sarah stood frozen.

Her aunt began crying.

“Sarah…”

Her voice broke.

“I’m sorry, my dear.”

Sarah looked at her through tear-filled eyes.

That evening, Sarah packed her few belongings into a small bag.

When she walked out of the orphanage with her aunt, she stopped at the entrance and looked back.

Her aunt placed a hand on her shoulder.

“Come home, Sarah.”

Sarah nodded.

The days passed quietly.

Then one morning, her aunt looked at the calendar.

11 October.

That evening, Sarah was sitting in her room when her aunt knocked on the door.

“Come in.”

Her aunt entered carrying a small, beautifully wrapped box.

“I brought something for you.”

Sarah smiled.

“For me?”

Her aunt nodded.

“It’s a gift.”

Sarah took the box and opened it.

Her eyes widened.

“The bracelet…”

Her aunt smiled through her tears.

“Yes.”

“But… where did you get it?”

Her aunt sat beside her.

“I bought it back.”

Sarah looked at her.

“Bought it back?”

Her aunt nodded.

“From the same jeweller I sold it to years ago.”

Sarah gently lifted the bracelet from the box.

“Why?”

Her aunt took her hand.

“Because some things should never have been sold in the first place.”

Sarah’s eyes filled with tears.

Her aunt continued,

“I wanted you to have something that belonged to your past… but also something that could become part of your future.”

Sarah looked down at the bracelet.

Then she smiled.

“Thank you.”

Her aunt helped her put it around her wrist.

It fit perfectly.

The End.
