Lucien

I WAS IN control of my own life. Ever since I chose the life of rebellion and it chose me back, everything was clear and set.

As I revved the engine and heard the intoxicating sound of the motor wheels into the midnight streets, I knew I was a goner. Wind swept my hair and my eyes took in New york lights, I shouted into the air. Loud and clear, just like when I stepped onto the gas and my sleek onyx motorcycle sped past the blinding lights. I cravedfast and hard, the feel of the metal handles on both of my hands, the sign of my favorite skull of death printed in the middle of my only baby.

The guy behind me tried to sidetrack me, but it didn’t work. Everyone attempted to beat me, but the only thing they got was the scraps of their aftermath loss, their bikes. I studied the lanes like it was my own, these were the dangerous roads I had trained continuously for, this was my definition of freedom.

“You’re going to fucking regret this,” Reese Byers shouted for the millionth time, but I just stood on my motor and gave him the much needed finger.

I got down, slowing slightly before I went full boost, the crowd cheered wholeheartedly, but I didn’t listen to them as much as I listened to my heartbeats. I crossed the finishing line like I always did before.

“Do I look like a guy who does regrets, Byers?” I hypothetically asked.

“Just wait and see the next race,” he threatened before he went over to his guys and bashed his helmet onto the ground, then he glared at me all the way from across the pavement.

Alana jumped at me, her arms bracketed my neck tightly and I caught her just in time for a hot make out, my reward wasn’t only trophies. It was the sexiest girl, Alana Reyes, daughter of the famous racer. It definitely looked like I was smooching her off to meet her dad, but the girl had spunk and she had good taste since she chose me.

“You were really killing it, Lucien,” her lips met mine again and I kissed her feverishly. “Come over to my party tomorrow?” She pulled away, her lips swollen and innocent olive eyes expected me to say yes.

“You know that parties aren’t my thing and I have to practice for the annual underground race,” I answered her, thinking of the rejected family gathering and other creative ways to sneak into my own house.

Nothing new, typical climb the roof way.

“Just one night wouldn’t hurt and you haven’t seen my thong collection yet,” she offered, biting her lip in the process.

Bunny thongs and divine bra choices.

“Count me in, but only for an hour,” I bargained.

“I think we could do a lot under one hour.” she moved her hair to the other side and gave me her best sultry eyes. I was halfway interested until I heard a cough of someone that appeared in front of me.

Dad was a boring businessman, never had fun in his life and married early to the first woman he met, my mom. If I was him, I would commit suicide, I could never imagine a life without racing and skinny dipping, drugs with my bestfriends and skipping senior year from the start.

In other words, a beautiful chaotic life.

I casually lifted Alana off of my motorcycle and she gave me an awkward pat on the shoulder before she ran off to the other groupies.

“What’s up, John?” I saluted my dad dryly. I couldn’t be assed to know about how he came here, it had to be the stalking device he placed on the tail.

“You will call me dad and you must respect me.” If this was cartoon network, he would be a boiling teapot. He was similar in the face department, big nose and thin eyebrows.

“You didn’t earn my respect.” I neared him, challenging him to pick up a fight as I whispered, ”John.”

He closed his eyes, his patience thinner than his eyebrows, and opened them with disappointment dripped in them, “I tried countless times with you, Lucien. But you keep messing up and you are punished,” he stated strictly, receiving an eye roll from me.

“What is it this time? No playstation? No hang outs?”

“I’ll report you to the police and you can kiss your annual race goodbye.”

That got him a reaction from me, I straightened up and scowled at his ugly face. “You can’t do that, how do you even know about it?” I exclaimed.

He crossed his arms with a pleased grin, taunting me to throw a punch at him. If it wasn’t for the no violence rule and no cracking sounds, I would do it in half a second.

“You hid the flyers under your bed and I saw it,” he clarified with the smug grin on his face, it got me railing and imagining ways to kill him. He was in his usual grey sweaters and pants attire, making him the stereotypical dad. It was a shame he couldn’t do his part right towardsme.

I bit into my molars, fists clenched and eyes narrowed as I spoke slowly, “what do you want?”

He wanted to play with me, so he pretended to think about it and said, “no skipping classes and I want you to graduate your senior year,” he stated clearly. Education was his top one priority, that was why he bullied my oldest brother to get into his dream university.

Everyone in this fucking family was successful, living dull lives and counting their death away with workaholic routine, not fuckingfun.

“Yeah, like that will happen,” I scoffed.

I was way in the deep end with my grades, the only one who liked me was Mrs. Peterson, my Biology teacher, because of my looks. I was everyone’s nightmare, they steered away from me ever since I gave my History teacher, Mr. Attkins, a bleached hair.

He turned around with a shrug, “okay then, I’m off to the police–”

“Okay, fine," I sneered, “but I will race the annual and you can’t tell anyone.”

He faced me with a nod and I gripped my helmet determinedly.
