Chapter 1

Valentina's Pov

Let me tell you how I met Enzo D’Amore the love of my life, my amazing husband and wonderful father to our son Luca D’Amore. I am taking you back to when I was 15 years old, making Enzo 17 years old at the time. I am taking you back to the 1970′s, when it was the time of love and peace but in my world it was far from it.

I didn’t come from a rich family but we weren’t poor either. My father worked at a timber mill while my mother was a waitress at the local diner. My father was a mean man at times when he drank and that was mostly everyday, he would either come home and got drunk or he went out with his work mates to the bar.

So when I was speaking to my mother while helping her with dinner I didn’t realise that my father had walked in with his friends.

“So this boy came up to me today and ask if I’d like to go on a date with him” I told my mother.

“What’s is the young boy’s name?”

“Enzo D’Amore”

“Absolutely no way are you going with that piece of shit!” I hear my father yell from the kitchen door way. I almost jumped out of my skin and nearly dropped the plate that I was holding. Not only was my father standing there with an angry look on his face but his friends stood behind him smirking.

After yelling at me some more my mother told me to head up to my room.

I didn’t see what was wrong with Enzo asking me out on a date. It would be my first date. I have known him for a while now since we go to the same high school. Enzo was just 2 years older than me. Around school he was known as the rich kid but he was sweet and caring, with a handsome smile.

Since I was kinda still new to the school I didn’t realise that the D’Amore’s were the most powerful Mafia family in New Jersey. I was brought out of my thoughts when I heard something smash and my mother screaming while my father yelled throughout the house.

I hated it when they fought it didn’t turn out good always something was ended in pieces on the floor and it always brought tears to my eyes.

“SHE IS NOT SEEING THAT PIECE OF SHIT EVER! MARK MY WORDS” I heard my father yell from the kitchen and that’s when I also heard heavy footsteps heading towards my room.

The next thing I knew was my bedroom door being kicked open and slam against the wall. My father walked over to me and pulled me off my bed by my hair. I gasped as I grabbed at his wrist to stop him but that landed me by getting a hard slap on my face. The moment I tasted blood I knew I had a cut on my lip.

“You better look at me girl! I expect you to never see that fucking D’Amore scum ever again!” He yelled in my face.

“But dad he goes to my school” that made me earn another slap and the cut on my lip opened up even more.

“I DON’T GIVE A FLYING FUCK VALENTINA!!”

That night I didn’t get any sleep I laid there staring outside my bedroom window till I knew my father and mother had passed out. I went in search of the daily/ weekly newspapers to find something about why I should stay away.

When I did find something it was bad, shootings, drug trades, murders, stabbings it was all linked to one family. The D’Amore’s.

I didn’t know what to think when I returned to my room that night I knew I wasn’t going to be getting any sleep, I never did when it came to nights like these.

The next day I was tired, I wasn’t in the mood to be here all I wanted was to curl into a ball and sleep. I was at my locker grabbing the books that I needed for my morning classes when I felt someone by my side.

“Good morning beautiful” I knew it was him but I couldn’t bring myself to look at him. I had to look away biting my lip I almost forgot that I had a huge cut on it gasping bringing tears to my eyes. “What’s wrong?” Enzo spoke again but I shook my head but I felt his fingers touch my chin to turn my head to look at him.

What I saw in his eyes when I looked at him was anger. “Who did this?” He spoke low but I shook my head no again. He slammed his fist into the locker next to my head making me jump and to cover my head with my arms making me drop the books I was holding. Everyone that was in the hall looked at us now.

I was scared to say the least, I wanted to run, run as far as I could I hated it when people looked at me with pity I hated it!

“Valentina.. I..” Enzo started to say but I started to pick up my books grabbing my bag. Enzo tried to stop me but I brought my hand up and slap him in the face.

“Leave. Me. Alone!” I half yelled by walking backwards when I saw that anger return to his eyes I knew I was in trouble. So I pretty much turned on my heels and ran as fast as I could out of there.

That had started my rebellion I didn’t want to be the shy girl anymore that stood in the corner being quiet. I wanted to grow up even though I was 15 I didn’t care.

After that day at school I never saw Enzo again. Rumours were going around saying he went to jail because he killed at man, some were because he joined his father’s company and others were him moving back to Italy.

I didn’t what to believe but I guess I was about to find out.
