Chapter 1
In a little town called Brooklyn, a little girl named Maya was a quiet and obedient girl. She lived with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Miller. She schooled at Brooklyn Elementary basic school, and she was brilliant and clever. She was always praised by her neighbors and teachers because of her good behavior. She enjoyed her beautiful life living with her parents. [1]
All of a sudden, Maya’s life turned around. On one Monday morning, she prepared and went to school. Around noon, the clouds began to change and terrible destructive winds began to blow, scattering the whole place. And the rains began to pour down; it rained cats and dogs. By the time Maya closed from school, the rain had stopped, so she went home. On her way home, she saw people’s houses destroyed and she rushed home. To her surprise, her home was also ruined, leaving no single piece. She began to wail and search for her parents, but they were nowhere to be found. Her neighbors ignored her because they were busily clearing the water from their houses.
Maya now had nowhere and no one to stay with. She quickly rushed to the school and informed her teacher, Ms. Cooper. She assured her that everything would be fine. She took her home and catered for her. She really felt welcomed in her teacher’s house. Ms. Cooper asked if she knew any of her relatives’ contact details. Maya answered yes and gave them to her. She quickly called them and informed them about the situation.
Unfortunately, the relatives on the phone refused to help, claiming they had no space or money to take care of a child. To make matters worse, the local rescue team later delivered heartbreaking news: Maya’s parents had been swept away by the severe floodwaters and were officially missing. Maya felt her entire world crumble. Seeing the little girl’s despair, Ms. Cooper made a brave decision. She promised to look after Maya permanently. The next few years were a massive struggle. Ms. Cooper’s teacher salary was small, and they often had to skip meals to afford Maya’s school books and uniforms. Maya studied under a single dim lantern every night, turning her deep grief into academic fuel. She promised herself she would make her teacher proud and honor her missing parents.
Her hard work paid off spectacularly. Maya won a prestigious national scholarship to study medicine at the top university in the country. She graduated at the very top of her class, becoming a respected medical doctor.
Years later, Dr. Maya Miller built a massive, disaster-proof hospital in her hometown to treat families for free. On the grand opening day, a frail, elderly couple walked through the clinic doors, holding an old, faded photograph of a little girl. Maya gasped as tears flooded her eyes. It was Mr. and Mrs. Miller! They had survived the flood years ago but had lost their memories in the trauma, only recently remembering who they were.
Surrounded by her loving teacher, Ms. Cooper, and her long-lost parents, Maya’s life came full circle. The tragedy that once broke her had led to her ultimate success, bringing her family back together in pure, unexplainable joy.
