Marked by the Vampire: Blood Against Blood

Summary

A war between vampires and werewolves had caused their hiding place to be discovered. Beth Greene lives as a refugee between both worlds. She is a human who decided to be instructed by vampire hunters to hunt down the vampire who murdered her son. On her path to revenge she will discover that not all vampires are the same, most of them evil but many others benevolent and with strict moral regulations. Introduction. The Mark.

Daylight was survival, it was the time when she could move most freely, when she could travel the most without having to watch those disgusting beings that went out to hunt humans as if they were rabbits. She didn’t fear them, not anymore, they feared her and she could see it in their eyes before she killed them. They discovered that she was a human, due to her smell, her blood, the bright color of her skin that was not pale like theirs. And she could tell, they feared her and were ashamed at the same time, they were ashamed for having allowed themselves to be killed by a simple human. And if they didn’t see it, she told them to their faces before dying, just to feel the satisfaction that they died by her hands, and a human hand skinned them.

The compass in her pocket shook again, and she took it out and observed carefully for a moment. It must have been broken. It was impossible for a vampire to walk calmly during the day.

Then she stopped dead. Since the war had started, she had only seen one vampire capable of walking in daylight. She began to run towards the direction that the compass pointed.

She still remembered that disgusting and dirty being, she would never forget his face, she would never forget those marks on his back, marks that formed wings on his skin.

She would remember that day for the rest of her life.

The little one was pulling on her sleeve, he wanted to run even more and she couldn’t stand on her feet, they hurt and they had to return soon so she didn’t want to get tired so soon.

“Shawn, we can see him tomorrow, we don’t have to go today.”

“But tonight is Christmas and I want to give Santa Claus my letter.”

She followed closely, the little boy had turned seven a month ago and he couldn’t find a better gift than an action figure. She knew he wanted a bicycle but it was impossible to find one today. She couldn’t just go buy one.

She stopped a few steps further back, wanted to give him some privacy and saw him from afar talking to the cardboard Santa Claus that was at one of the doors of the shopping center. They couldn’t just go in there, everything was destroyed, and due to the passage of time many of the doors and railings were already rusty.

“Did you already give it to him?”

She watched as he turned and widened his eyes in surprise at first, then watched as his face changed into maximum possible terror. She wanted to turn around to look at what she was looking at, but then a hand grabbed her by the throat, turning her around, and lifting her up so that her feet didn’t touch the ground.

“Look what a girl we have here, she looks like a real angel.”

She kicked, scratched and tried to bite him but it was no use. He laughed watching her fail, suffocating her.

“Leave my mom!”

She listened to Shawn and then she began to really care, for her son more than for herself.

“What a young human, I haven’t seen one like that in a long time.”

He forcefully threw her to the side and she began to cough, crawling towards her son but she was weak and far from him.

It was daytime, but the sun seemed to do nothing.

“You can’t hurt women, Uncle Zach tells me that all the time. They’re pure.”

“Your uncle is stupid, kid.”— The vampire grabbed him by the collar of his jacket, lifting him up and putting him in front of him. —“There is nothing more fun and exciting than watching a woman dying, asking you to kill her while you fuck her and suck her blood.”

“You are evil!”

“No, I know how to live life.”

Crawling she reached them and punched him in the side but that seemed to tickle him. He tossed Shawn to the side and looked at her again smiling widely.

He grabbed her hair and lifted her up, licking his lips.

“No! Leave her!”

The little boy hit him without much success.

“Now you will see how it is done.”

She heard him say before she felt a pain in her neck, he was biting her.

“Ah!”

She tried to separate him, hitting, kicking but she wouldn’t go away. Her body felt weak and then he stopped, throwing her to the ground. She was very sleepy.

She blinked and saw everything half-heartedly, with a sweep to black, and then she came to. She heard their voices but didn’t understand anything, she closed her eyes again. When she opened them again she saw him biting her son. He resisted but couldn’t do anything. Then he threw him to the ground, and he quickly walked away. Someone seemed to be coming. Everything turned black.

When she woke up a week later, she was in the northern lair of the vampire hunters, led by General Martín, and no one there knew anything about her son. She had been rescued by a certain Ron, and he told her that only she was there when they arrived.

She didn’t get up for another week, until Laura, the General’s sister, came screaming into her room and forced her to get up and move forward. That was when she saw the mark on her neck, it was lower than she thought, almost on her collarbone, it still stung, but the worst thing was its appearance. The area was red and around the two marks of his fangs, a circle was emerging. She had seen people killed, bitten before and none of them looked like that. She got scared but still didn’t show it to anyone.

Thus the weeks passed and she decided to stay there to be instructed by Laura and General Martín. Although as much as she learned from vampires, nothing she learned there made sense with what she had experienced.

Going out at night was stupid, a call to danger. The night was infected by bloodsuckers but her compass continued to point to the same vampire from before, the one who had gone out during the day and she couldn’t lose track of him.

“What is a bunny like you doing at this time of night? Are you bored locked up, hiding in your nest?”

When she reached the place she was pointing to, she heard that voice behind her. She surreptitiously put her hand inside her jacket, into the pocket where she hid her gun, and took it out, turning around, pointing it at him.

“Who the fuck are you?”

She blurted out loud. That vampire was not who she was looking for.

“Should you meet me? Have we met before?”

She was distracted for a moment, which was enough for him to grab her by the throat and push her to the wall, supporting her there forcefully. The gun had fallen at his feet, although she feared nothing.

He pulled down her shirt and saw the bite, she didn’t want that to happen.

“Who are you? How do you have the mark and are you still alive?”

She took advantage of his moment of surprise to stab him in the eye with her metal knife.

The vampire screamed and fell back, cursing, kicking.

“Give me back my knife!”

She approached, removing it from his eye and he screamed, he launched himself on top of her, taking out his fangs, ready to bite her. It caught her by surprise and she found him on top of her and his hands trapped hers.

She got rid of one of his hands easily, and took out the crucifix that she was carrying on her sleeve, stabbing it in the other eye and thus getting off of him.

“Son of a bitch!”

“You don’t say bad words in front of me.”

She was alarmed when she heard other footsteps nearby. It was night and they were in an alley so the vampire’s screams would have echoed, warning others.

“Geret, is this dead fly giving you trouble?”

One of them mocked, she heard multiple laughs. Now she was in trouble, she couldn’t handle so many alone.

“Kill her! She doesn’t even deserve to play with her.”

The one on the ground screamed and the others rushed towards her. She could with one, she could with the other, and with another. But when they approached at the same time, they managed to place her against the wall.

“Let me go bat with legs!”

“You’re really funny, you know?”

“Hey, Malok, he has the mark.”

One of them said and the other pulled her shirt down even more.

“What are you doing here if you are marked?”

The mark seemed to scare the three vampires but one laughed.

“It will be a coincidence.”

“Are you stupid, Krak? It’s impossible.”

The three were arguing, and from one moment to the next she found herself on the ground, with pain in her knees and hands from the blow, and when she looked up she found herself alone, without any vampires around her.

“Okay, girl. Time to go.”

She turned her head slowly towards the source of the noise, towards the person who had said that phrase. He was an attractive man, tall, older than her but still with a pretty face, long hair, more or less up to his shoulders, and blue eyes. And then she saw it, the fangs. He wasn’t a man, he was a vampire.
