Excellent, detailed writing and awesome plot!
"I knew The Devil’s Secretary was special within the first few paragraphs of reading it. When the author describes the “glacial air conditioning hitting her wet clothes,” I thought: “This is going to be good.” The writing in each scene immerses you in the setting. The writer uses details from each of the senses to capture the moment. Not only do we feel the characters’ emotions through their mental landscapes, but by rich physical detail. The plot had me intrigued almost right away as well. Ethan Blackwood strikes you at first as someone to be feared, but a deep care shows in his actions towards Eva Chen. And Eva isn’t afraid to go toe to toe with him. Her talents and confidence shine as she shows off her ability to be an excellent secretary. And the tension between the two of them is amazing. Definitely recommend this story to anyone who loves slow burn, romantic tension, and suspense. "
Chapter 1 review
"It's a really enticing read! Right up my alley too haha. I saw some grammatical errors. I would love if you expand on Eva's emotions a little more. I enjoy reading how she feels about her soon-to-be boss haha. Onward to chapter 2 :) "
THE DEVIL'S SECRETARY
"This is a strong first chapter. The premise is immediately engaging, the tension is high, and the ending leaves readers wanting the next chapter. If I were leaving feedback for the author, I'd focus on polishing what's already good rather than changing the story. Here's the review I would post: I really enjoyed this first chapter! It immediately pulled me in with the mystery of Eva and Ethan's shared past, and the ending was strong enough to make me want to read the next chapter right away. The pacing is fast, the chemistry between the characters is obvious from their first meeting, and the atmosphere of Blackwood Enterprises feels cold, intimidating, and perfect for this type of romance. One suggestion I'd make is to trust the reader a little more. Sometimes the story tells us exactly how we should feel ("terrifying," "dangerous," "suffocating") several times in a row. Letting Ethan's actions, his silence, his expressions, and the environment create those emotions naturally would make the tension even stronger. I also think Eva's internal thoughts could be a little more unique. She spends a lot of time reminding herself not to panic, and while that's understandable, adding memories, observations, or small personal details would help distinguish her from other romance heroines and make her feel more three-dimensional. Ethan is intriguing, but I'd love to see a little more personality beyond being cold and intimidating. Even one unexpected habit, subtle expression, or dry sense of humor could make him feel more memorable while keeping his mysterious image intact. Another suggestion is to vary the sentence lengths. The short, punchy sentences work well during tense moments, but when every paragraph follows the same rhythm, it can become repetitive. Mixing in a few longer, more descriptive sentences would give the chapter a smoother flow while still maintaining suspense. Finally, I hope the story gradually reveals what really happened during their night together instead of giving all the answers too quickly. Keeping readers guessing will make the emotional payoff much stronger when the truth finally comes out. Overall, this is a very promising start with excellent chemistry, strong pacing, and a hook that makes readers want to keep turning the pages. I'm looking forward to seeing where Eva and Ethan's story goes. Great job, and I wish you the best with the rest of the novel! "
