Summary

Avant que son nom n'inspire la peur, elle s'appelait Laufey. Jeune sorcière de Skara, une forêt où toute vie comptait, Laufey prêtait davantage attention à une toile tendue dans l'herbe qu'aux affaires de son propre village. Lorsque quelque chose vint troubler cet équilibre, elle fut la première à en percevoir les signes. Au début, ce ne furent que des détails : des oiseaux fuyant vers le nord, une vibration étrangère sous les racines. Puis les blessures s'étendirent. Des clairières s'ouvrirent, les bêtes désertèrent leurs tanières et les lieux sacrés furent profanés. Ceux qui venaient d'ailleurs appelaient cela survivre ; Laufey y vit la fin d'un monde. Elle demanda de l'aide. On lui répondit d'attendre. Mais certaines douleurs, laissées trop longtemps sans réponse, cessent de réclamer justice. Elles apprennent à mordre, puis s'enracinent dans la chair, dans le sang, jusque dans le nom de celle qui les porte. Tandis que Skara entrait en deuil, Laufey s'engagea seule dans la lutte que personne n'avait voulu partager, ignorant qu'elle commençait déjà à devenir autre chose. Voici l'histoire de Laufey. Voici la naissance de Vespéris.
