Chapter 1
MIXIE
I was lost in my thoughts as Chassin and I exited the portal. We were escorted out of the room and were being walked down the long hallway by two police officers. One person opened the door and held it open for us. We exited the building and trotted down the stairs. There was a police cruiser waiting for us by the curb. The officer opened the door, and we climbed into the backseat.
My name is Mixie Lightborn. I’m Seventeen, I’m short but athletic body. I have long orange hair with a blond streak down the middle. I’m the creator of the trading card game that is currently taking the entire world by storm, Card Masters. Chassin and I are actually in the middle of the first tournament being held on Outer Earth as we speak. We had to return to Earth as my mother, Ava Avalon’s body, had been discovered. The murder was none only than Veda Lightborn. Chassin’s mother. Chassin is actually my husband. We had gotten married in a secret ceremony I had absolutely zero recollection of.
“Turn the car around,” Chassin spoke. “I will identify the body. Mixie can wait for me to return.” The detective turned the car around and pulled over in front of Galaxy Corp. I opened the door and walked back up the steps. I heard the door close, and the car sped away. The door was open when I entered the building. I stood there and was about to go into one office to wait for Chassin to return when my friend Maxfield Askary pulled open the heavy glass door and was out of breath when he saw me.
“I finally found you, Mix,” he panted. “How are you holding up?”
“I dun know,” I shrugged. “Chassin went to the police station to identify my mother’s body.”
“He didn’t want you to do it,” she nodded. “I’m sorry for your loss, Mix.” He gave me a quick hug before he removed himself.
“Let’s go into my office,” I spoke as I walked past the receptionist desk where Emily sat filling out paperwork. “How are you holding up after being eliminated from the tournament?”
“Alright,” he spoke as we entered my office. I closed the door after turning on the lights. “I wanted to hang around when you came back from Outer Earth.”
“That’s fine,” I smiled sadly. “I’ll notify security and they will grant you clearance.” I picked up my office phone and pressed a button.
“Do you need something, Mrs. Lightborn?” Emily asked on the other end of the line.
“Yes,” I replied with cheerfulness in my voice. “Please inform security that I shall grant my fiend Maxfield Askary full access to Galaxy Corp. and Aggrivao Silverlace Industries.”
“Right away, Mrs. Lightborn,” Emily spoke. “I shall grant your request.”
“Thank you, Emily,” I spoke. “Goodbye.” I hung up the phone and my smile faltered from my face. “Now we sit and wait for Chassin to return.”

CHASSIN
“That’s her,” I replied as I stared down at Ada Avalon’s stiff corpse lying on the table in the medical examiner’s room. He nodded and quickly covered the face back up with a white sheet. “I gotta break the misfortunate news to Mixie.”
“Thank you for confirming the body, Mr. Lightborn,” the detective spoke. “I will give you a ride back to Galaxy Corp.” I nodded curtly as I followed him out of the room. We walked up the hallway into the main lobby. He pushed open the glass door, and I stepped outside. He unlocked his car after I walked to it. The passenger’s side door was open when I entered. He walked around the front and opened the driver’s door as I closed the door behind me. He climbed in and closed it. He put the key in the ignition and turned it. The engine roared to life as he dragged out of the parking space. I put on my seatbelt and sighed heavily.
My name is Chassin (Sin) Lightborn. I’m eighteen, I am the owner of Galaxy Corp. I signed the paperwork and am now the owner of Aggrivao Silverlace Industries now that my mother Veda Lightborn was in prison. My father and the rest of the Council of Chronos members disappeared after she’s arrested. They were probably hiding out in Europe or somewhere foreign to keep out of the FBI’s Most Wanted list. I entered the Card Masters Tournament to ensure Mixie won and was granted her freedom.
“Were here, Mr. Lightborn,” the detective spoke. His voice made me jump out of my skin. “I’ll keep you informed about the investigation of your mother and when you can have a proper barrel of the body.”
“Thank you,” I spoke as I unfastened the seatbelt. I pushed open the door and stepped out. I closed the door behind me, and the car sped off. “Time to give Mixie the bad news.” I walked up the steps and pulled open the door.
“Mrs. Lightborn and her friend Mr. Askary are waiting for you in her office, sir,” Emily spoke as she saw me. “She is hurting after her mother’s murder.”
“Thank you, Emily,” I nodded curtly as I walked past the front desk. “I’m heading there now.” I raced up the hallway and straight into her office.
“Was it her?” Mixie asked as she leapt out of her seat and moved around her desk. She rushed up to me, stopping in front of me. “Sin, I need to know… please?”
“It’s her,” I spoke in a meek voice. “I’m so sorry, my beloved.”
“No!” she sobbed. “It can’t be?” I quickly pulled her into my arms and held her as she cried. Maxfield grabbed a few tissues and tossed them to me. I caught them and handed them to her. She dabbed at her eyes and blew her nose.
“We gotta be heading back to Outer Earth now,” I spoke gently as I gazed down at her. “Are you going to be okay to put the funeral off until after the tournament and the Police investigation is over?”
“I have to,” she sighed as she slowly regained her composure. “I have to win the entire tournament to be free right?”
“Yeah,” I replied as I kissed her on top of her head. I looked at Maxfield and he was looking at her phone in his hand. “How good are you with technology, Max?”
“Don’t tell anyone,” he looked around the room nervously. “But I’m a hacker.”
“Really?” I asked, arching an elegant eyebrow. “I would like to hire you for a job.”
“What kind of job?” Max asked, with curiosity in his voice.
“The kind that will put your hacking skills to the test,” I replied. “Do you want it or not?” I paused briefly as he pondered my proposition. “I’ll pay you substantial money for your services.”
“I’m down,” he finally nodded. “What’s the job?”
“I want you to go to Aggrivao Silverlace Industries and hack the system for me.”
