Aaranya

                                        .   Aaranya

Chapter 1One evening, after college, a group of friends gathered at a bakery shop to celebrate a birthday. Among them was Aaranya, an extroverted and cheerful girl. Some of her close friends were also there, including the boy she secretly liked, Zayn.Zayn was a quiet and hardworking student who focused mainly on his studies. Aaranya had been in love with him for a long time, but it was only a one-sided love. Zayn had no idea about her feelings because he was always busy with his academics. As the birthday celebration continued, the cake-cutting ceremony was completed. Aaranya took a piece of cake and walked toward Zayn. At first, he refused to take it, but after Aaranya insisted, he accepted the cake and ate it.After that, Aaranya distributed cake to the rest of her friends. While everyone was talking and enjoying the celebration, she occasionally glanced at Zayn while he was eating. Every small look at him made her heart beat faster.Soon, the evening came to an end, and everyone left for their homes. On her way back, Aaranya excitedly spoke to her closest friend, Rithika, about how much she loved Zayn. Rithika listened patiently as Aaranya shared her feelings, dreams, and hopes about him.Little did Aaranya know that her journey with Zayn was only beginning.Chapter 2Flashback – How the Love StartedAs Aaranya lay on her bed that night, her thoughts slowly drifted back to the beginning of her college days. A small smile appeared on her face as she remembered the day everything started. It was the first day of college. The campus was filled with excitement, nervousness, and countless new faces. Students walked through the corridors, searching for their classrooms while introducing themselves to strangers who would soon become friends.Unlike the cheerful and outgoing girl she was now, Aaranya was unusually quiet that morning. Everything around her felt new and unfamiliar. Holding her bag tightly, she entered her classroom and chose a seat on the fifth bench. She sat silently, observing the students around her. Some were talking confidently, while others looked just as nervous as she felt.A few minutes later, a girl entered the classroom and sat on the bench directly behind Aaranya. The girl looked a little nervous and kept glancing around the room.Aaranya noticed her immediately. For a few moments, both of them remained silent. Then Aaranya gathered a little courage, turned around, and smiled."Hi," she said softly. "What's your name?"The girl looked surprised for a second before returning the smile."I'm Rithika," she replied."I'm Aaranya."That simple conversation marked the beginning of a beautiful friendship. As the two girls continued talking, their nervousness slowly disappeared. They spoke about their school days, their dreams, and their expectations for college life. Neither of them knew that this friendship would become one of the most important parts of their lives. And somewhere in that same classroom, a boy named Zayn was about to unknowingly enter Aaranya's story.Chapter 3 – The First ImpressionThe first week of college slowly began to erase the awkwardness that had filled the campus on day one. Faces were becoming familiar, conversations grew louder, and every classroom slowly started feeling like a second home.On one such morning, the entire class settled into their seats as the lecturer entered the room."Good morning, everyone.""Good morning, ma'am," the students replied in unison. After taking attendance, the lecturer smiled."Since it's still your first day together as a class, let's make today a little different. We'll have a small talent session."The classroom instantly became silent."I'll stand at the back. Anyone who wants to come forward and showcase their talent can do so."The class coordinator walked to the last bench and waited. One minute...Two minutes...Not a single student moved. Some avoided eye contact. Others pretended to search through their bags. The coordinator laughed softly."So much silence? Where did all your confidence go?"Still, no one came forward. Her eyes scanned the room before stopping at the fifth bench."You there... yes, you."Aaranya looked around, hoping the coordinator was pointing at someone else."Me, ma'am?""Yes. Come forward."Aaranya froze for a second. She was naturally outgoing, but standing in front of an entire classroom on only the first day was different. Her heart raced as every pair of eyes turned towards her.Rithika gently nudged her."Go... You'll do great."Taking a deep breath, Aaranya stood up and slowly walked towards the front of the class. As she crossed the rows of benches, a few boys at the back couldn't resist teasing."Machan... look at her!""So fearless on the very first day!""She's actually going!"Their playful comments echoed across the classroom.Among those students sat Zayn.Unlike the others, he didn't laugh or tease.Quiet by nature, he simply listened. His eyes followed Aaranya as she reached the front of the classroom. For the first time, he truly noticed her.She stood before the class, trying to hide her nervousness behind a small smile."What will you perform?" the coordinator asked.Aaranya took a deep breath."I'll sing... an English song, ma'am."The room became silent. She closed her eyes for a moment and began to sing. Her voice was soft, clear, and surprisingly confident. Every note carried warmth, filling the classroom with a calm silence. Even the students who had been whispering moments earlier stopped talking. The playful smiles disappeared.Everyone listened.Even Zayn.He wasn't someone who easily noticed people. But something about her voice made him look up from his notebook. For the first time that day...His attention wasn't on the lecture. It was on the girl standing in front of the classroom. As the song ended, the room remained silent for a brief moment.Then...Clap!One student started applauding.Soon the entire class joined in.The classroom echoed with applause.Aaranya smiled shyly before thanking everyone and returning to her seat.As she sat down beside Rithika, she let out a small sigh of relief."You were amazing!" Rithika whispered excitedly.Aaranya laughed softly."I thought I'd forget the lyrics."Little did she know...Among all the applause she had received that day...There was one silent glance that would become unforgettable. And that glance belonged to Zayn.Chapter 4 – A New FriendThe fun activity came to an end, and the lecturer smiled at the class."Alright, everyone. We'll continue with the regular classes after the break."The bell rang almost immediately.Students rushed out of the classroom, filling the corridors with laughter and conversations. Some headed towards the library, while most made their way to the college canteen."I'm starving," Aaranya sighed dramatically.Rithika laughed."Come on. Let's grab something before the next class."Within minutes, the two friends reached the crowded canteen. The aroma of freshly fried snacks filled the air. After standing in the queue for a few minutes, they bought two hot samosas and found a quiet corner to stand and eat."This is actually so good," Aaranya said after taking the first bite."I know! College canteen food isn't as bad as everyone says," Rithika replied with a smile. The two chatted happily while enjoying their snacks.Just then, someone walked towards them."Hi..."Both girls looked up.It was one of their classmates. He smiled politely."My name is Balaji. We're in the same class."Aaranya smiled back."Oh... hi!""I just wanted to say... the English song you sang in class was really nice. You sang beautifully."Aaranya felt a little embarrassed by the compliment."Thank you," she replied with a grateful smile. There was a brief silence.Trying to be friendly, Aaranya asked,"Would you like something? We're having samosas."Balaji immediately waved his hand."No, no... it's okay. I just happened to come to the canteen. I thought I'd say hi. That's all.""Alright," Aaranya said with a smile."It was nice meeting you.""Same here."With a small wave, Balaji walked away.Rithika quietly watched him until he disappeared into the crowd. Then she leaned closer to Aaranya."Hey... I don't know why, but something about him doesn't feel right."Aaranya looked at her in surprise."What? Why would you say that?""I don't know... just a feeling. Be a little careful, okay?"Aaranya chuckled."You're overthinking."She glanced in the direction Balaji had gone."He doesn't seem like a bad person to me. In fact, he looks like a decent guy."Rithika shrugged."Maybe... but still. Just be careful."Aaranya smiled and gently nudged her friend's shoulder."Enough with your detective theories. Come on, we'll be late for class."The two girls finished their samosas, threw the paper plates into the dustbin, and walked back towards their classroom, laughing about random things along the way.Neither of them realized...That this brief meeting in the canteen was the beginning of another friendship. One that would slowly become an important part of their college journey.
