Ch 1 Michael Emmanuel

The evening sky over Chennai glowed orange as traffic crawled through the city. Horns echoed from every direction, street vendors shouted over steaming tea stalls, and college students laughed as they walked along the sidewalks.

For Michael Emmanuel, life couldn't have been more ordinary.

Twenty-two years old, a final-year medical student, he had only three priorities-becoming a doctor, spending time with his friends, and annoying his girlfriend, Jennifer.

His old Honda rolled toward a traffic signal with Jennifer in the front seat and three friends squeezed into the back.

The car burst into laughter.

He dramatically lowered his head like a royal servant.

Everyone laughed.

Michael rolled his eyes.

None of them noticed the black motorcycle that had stopped beside them.

The two riders froze.

One slowly turned toward Michael.

His face drained of color.

Without saying a word, he pulled out his phone.

The signal turned green.

Michael drove away...

...completely unaware that his life had just changed forever.

That night...

The Emmanuel house was peaceful.

His mother was serving hot sambar while his father quietly read the newspaper.

Jennifer was texting him nonstop.

Everything felt normal.

Until...

11:47 PM.

The lights went out.

Darkness swallowed the house.

A second later...

CRASH!

The front gate exploded inward.

Heavy boots thundered across the floor.

Glass shattered.

Someone screamed.

Michael's father stood up instantly.

But Michael didn't run.

He walked toward the voices.

His heartbeat was steady.

His breathing calm.

Three armed men stormed into the living room.

One pointed a pistol.

Before he could fire-

Michael grabbed a broken wooden chair leg lying nearby and smashed it across the man's jaw.

CRACK!

The man collapsed.

The second attacker charged.

Michael stepped aside, grabbed his wrist, twisted until the bone snapped, then slammed his forehead into the attacker's nose.

Blood sprayed across the wall.

The third man fired.

BANG!

The bullet shattered a photo frame.

Michael tackled him before he could fire again.

The pistol slid across the floor.

The two wrestled violently.

Michael finally grabbed the gun.

Two shots echoed through the house.

BANG!

BANG!

Silence.

Only Michael's heavy breathing remained.

His parents stared at him in shock.

Not because he survived...

But because of how naturally he fought.

His mother slowly walked toward him.

He looked at the bodies.

Then at his parents.

His father slowly removed his glasses.

For the first time in Michael's life...

He looked afraid.

Michael obeyed.

Several long seconds passed.

Finally...

Michael frowned.

His father's voice trembled.

Everything went silent.

Even the ticking clock seemed to stop.

His mother couldn't hold back her tears.

His father continued.

He paused.

"...is Michael Emmanuel De Santa."

Michael stared blankly.

"The most feared mafia emperor in the world."

Michael laughed.

Not because it was funny...

Because it sounded impossible.

Nobody laughed.

His father's eyes never left him.

"Your mother was killed."

"The world believed you died with her."

"But before the attackers reached you..."

"...you were secretly taken away."

"We were entrusted with raising you."

"You were never meant to be found."

Michael couldn't speak.

His entire identity collapsed in seconds.

His phone suddenly rang.

Jennifer Calling...

He answered immediately.

"It's urgent."

"Please... come alone."

Michael hesitated.

Something in her voice felt wrong.

Yet he had too many questions.

He drove to an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city.

Inside...

Only one man waited.

William.

Enzo's most trusted right-hand man.

He stood perfectly still in an expensive black suit.

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"For now."

Michael stepped forward.

William slowly circled him.

"The truth your father buried."

Michael remained silent.

"He could've saved her."

"He didn't."

Michael's fists tightened.

William smiled.

"She begged Enzo to protect you."

"He chose power instead."

"He abandoned both of you."

Michael's breathing became heavier.

Years of unanswered questions suddenly found a target.

Hatred.

William stepped closer.

"Not because he loves you..."

"...because he needs an heir."

Michael lowered his head.

His heart burned with rage.

William quietly turned away.

Hidden guards rushed in from every direction.

Michael fought desperately...

But he was overwhelmed.

His hands were restrained.

A black hood covered his face.

Hours later...

He was thrown into a luxurious prison cell inside the De Santa Palace.

The door opened again.

William stood outside.

Two guards entered.

Michael slowly looked around.

One loose metal frame.

One broken chain.

One opportunity.

The first guard lunged.

Michael ripped the chain free, wrapped it around the man's neck, and pulled with all his strength.

The second guard raised his pistol.

Michael threw the dying guard into him.

The gun fired wildly.

Michael snatched the weapon.

Two shots.

Both guards fell.

The palace alarms roared.

Michael sprinted through endless marble corridors.

More guards appeared.

He fought through each one without stopping.

Broken bones.

Gunfire.

Blood across polished floors.

At the end of the hallway...

Two enormous black doors stood before him.

A silver emblem was carved into them.

D.

The doors slowly opened.

Inside...

An enormous throne room stretched before him.

A single man sat calmly at its center.

A glass of whiskey rested in his hand.

His sharp eyes met Michael's.

The glass stopped halfway to his lips.

For twenty-two years...

He had mourned the son he believed was dead.

For twenty-two years...

Michael had lived believing he belonged to an ordinary family.

Now...

Father and son stood face to face for the very first time.

Neither spoke.

Neither moved.

Only silence filled the room.

And in that silence...

An empire held its breath.

TopazHorizon: What a sweet love story! I loved all the little stories from their childhood and teenhood. It really gave depth to their very fast love story. It made sense! I love how their parents were part of the story, too. I love how Theo is so gentle with her, like she's fragile... And yet so bossy in bed hah...
