Prologue

President De Flandres took a deep breath. Something was going to go wrong today, he knew it. The same way he knew when his friends encouraged him to start his campaign as a joke, he would actually win.

It was the morning of July 4th. A very special holiday. He knew something was going to happen.

And he was right.

Even before the day was out, three cities had been bombed by Great Britain. These bombs had flattened New York City, New York; Los Angeles, California; and Phoenix, Arizona.

Entire buildings crumpled to dust in seconds. Millions of lives were destroyed, the dead just a fraction of that number. The entire country mourned. The Senate accepted she was in a state of war.

So many things happening at once, the President could do no more than approve things and lead with a smile, telling his citizens not to worry. This was not what he signed up for, but tried his best to keep the country out of her looming depression.

The King of Britain loved war.

War meant gain, and with the new weapons that kept soldiers and land out of it, there was little to lose. And, the cherry on his sundae, an agent of the opposing side was working for him! It was too good for words.

Reports of massive casualties were music to his ears. Speaking of music, his beautiful double agent was a terrific singer. And she was attractive, for an American of course. He needed a queen, and to have such an exotic wife! Americans were not ones to travel out of their country often.

Why shouldn’t they? he thought to himself. The piece of land they call ‘America’ is better than any other land on the globe. But it will be mine.

Eve Warwick is our protagonist.

Eve hated the bombs. They destroyed her home in Arizona. Eve feared the bombs.

… Nine years later… year 2027….

Leah: The character writing in this is lovely. Everyone feels rich and well fleshed out, even when introduced for only a moment. The main female character is strong willed and quickly witted without feeling cliche or overly “not like other girls”. The world is also fascinating and I can’t wait to learn mo...
