Elsie's Heartbreak
(February 26th 2018)
Elsie wondered through the woods, after she escaped the CDC laboratory and became separated from the others; she has been feeling lost again, Elsie's cat spirit told her to go back home then maybe the others will find her, or die alone.
Elsie: "Well, home sweet home."
She sighs as memories of Patch telling Lord about what she did to him as a kitten come flooding back, she still feels bad for not being good with other cats, or kittens.
Elsie looks around and finds her owner's old bedroom, she hops onto one of the beds and finds Patch’s collar.
Elsie: "...Patch...I'm so sorry, I'm sorry for being a bad family member, I wanted you to pretend like you never existed, I was a selfish sister."
She picks up the collar and places it around her neck, she turns to leave the room but her back leg knocks a pillow off, revealing a tape player and Elsie's tail accidentally presses play.
Patch: “Elsie...I know you’re not listening to this, and I know I probably shouldn’t even be saying it. But you need to know, or I’m going to freeze this fall.”
Elsie stops, she turns around and sees the device before quickly pressing pause.
Elsie: “You don’t have to remind me of my mistakes, I miss you Patch…thank you for saving me and Lord.”
Elsie decides to press play anticipating being reminded of her mistakes once more.
She’s told herself that she has to stay strong for the group but now that she’s alone, Elsie decides to just let herself cry.
Patch: “I love you, I really do. But I was such a coward, Elsie. I knew what you did to Lord. I saw you lead him into the woods. I just...I watched you do it because I was afraid of loosing you forever if I stood in your way. I didn’t say anything. I let him break. And I hate that I let you do it. I love you more than the Sun, and I’m so sorry I couldn’t be better for you. I also wished that we had kittens before you got fixed, I better be going; I have a vet appointment today, I love you Elsie.”
Elsie looks at the device with tears in her eyes, she starts to cry absolutely weeping; how could she?
Elsie: “Patch…(sniffles)…oh dear god…you loved me…I’m a horrible cat.”
Her head hangs low, remembering on how she abandoned the Lord in the words, that was awful enough but what she did the Patch is heartbreaking, she promises to wear this collar, not just as a reminder of Patch’s sacrifice, but as a reminder of how much he truly loved her.
Elsie looks towards the forest and lets out a sigh, she’s going to find the group and then make a plan to escape this nightmare forever, to protect Lord and their new family.
Elsie: “I failed you Patch, I won’t fail again; I’m coming Lord, Gigi and Ghost. I just need to navigate through these silent woods, for Chloe.”
