Summary

Micah has one rule: he doesn’t kill people. Instead, he buries bodies sent to him by his brother out on a plot of nowhere in Oregon, where his only neighbors are a kennel full of working dogs that he has spent years training himself. Quiet is the only thing he’s ever really wanted, but that changes when a woman steps out of the treeline with a dead phone and a broken-down Camry, right as he’s putting the shovel down. Stevie came to Oregon to disappear. Turns out that’s easier to arrange than she thought. Much to her disbelief, Micah’s not going to hurt her. But he’s not going to let her leave, either. He only knows one way to handle something scared, broken, and worth keeping—and that’s by training her. TROPES: - Captor/captive - dubious consent - forced proximity - kidnapping romance - morally grey hero - obsession - praise kink - pet play - power exchange

trigger warnings

Please, for the love of God, take the triggers seriously.

This book deals with some heavy shit. This is a very dark romance.

On another note: This book contains references (discussed, not depicted) of suicidal ideation, depression, and self-harm. These are portrayed as symptoms of illness, not glorified. Reader discretion is advised.

DO NOT READ IF ANY OF THESE ARE NOT FOR YOU.

- kidnapping

- abduction

- captor/captive romance

- dubious consent

- attempted sexual assault (not by MMC)

- physical restraint

- collar and leash use

- cage and kennel imprisonment

- forced compliance

- conditioning

- bondage

- graphic violence

- body disposal

- death

- blood and gore

- threats of violence

- psychological manipulation

- degradation

- power imbalance

- isolation

- dehumanization

- explicit sexual content

- self-harm/scars

- mentions of suicide

- cheating

- organized crime

Also, dogs are a major part of this book, but rest assured: No dogs die.

Plenty of humans do—but we don’t really mind that.

Enjoy!

BlackKat07: Loved the characters and plot. Unfortunately after about chapter 10 the book really needs a good proof-read - lots of spelling and grammatical errors that spoiled it for me.
