Chapter 1: Unspoken Ties

The sleek glass doors of Nexa Headquarters slid open quietly, revealing the sharp, modern interiors of one of Mumbai’s leading OTT platforms. Inside the boardroom, Ayesha Mehra sat poised at the head of the table, her expression calm but unyielding. As India’s youngest OTT CEO, her reputation for brilliance was matched only by her cold, intimidating demeanor. One misstep from a presenter was enough to crush months of work.

The meeting had lasted over an hour, with Ayesha dissecting every proposal with surgical precision. Her voice was steady, her questions pointed, her gaze impossible to shake off. Around her, the executives either admired or feared her — but no one dared to challenge her.

Just as the last slide faded from the screen, her assistant stepped quietly inside.

“Ma’am, the representatives from Luminara Studios are here for the co-production agreement.”

Ayesha acknowledged with a simple nod and stood, her heels clicking sharply as she left the room.

At the reception, Reyansh Singhania adjusted his cufflinks, his posture effortlessly confident. Beside him, Trisha Sharma smiled knowingly.

“You seem unusually invested in this project,” she teased, nudging him lightly.

Reyansh’s gaze was distant but focused. “I’m not interested in Nexa,” he said calmly, “I’m interested in Rooh. Whoever Zara is, she’s a genius.”

Trisha raised an eyebrow but said nothing. Reyansh’s admiration for Zara, the enigmatic author whose work was being adapted, was well known — but no one knew Zara’s true identity.

Inside the conference room, Jai Mehta waited. The acclaimed director chosen to helm Rooh was all professionalism, greeting Reyansh with a firm handshake.

When Ayesha’s arrival was announced, Jai’s smile flickered for the barest moment before he masked it perfectly.

The doors opened, and Ayesha stepped in. Reyansh rose out of habit, their eyes locking across the room.

For a breath, silence stretched between them.

No smiles. No surprise. No warmth.

Nor was there coldness or hostility — only a taut, unspoken tension that filled the space.

Ayesha took her seat and spoke first.

“Good morning, everyone.”

Reyansh’s voice was calm, steady. “Good morning, Ms. Mehra.”

“Mr. Singhania.”

The brief exchange sent ripples of unease through the room.

The meeting began in earnest. Reyansh outlined Luminara’s vision for bringing Rooh to life on screen, his voice smooth and confident.

Ayesha interrupted, her tone sharp but professional.

“The timeline you propose seems ambitious. What contingencies are in place if delays occur?”

Reyansh met her gaze evenly. “We’ve accounted for potential setbacks. Our team is experienced, and the budget includes buffers.”

She nodded but pressed on. “And the creative direction? The essence of Rooh must remain intact. Compromising its depth won’t do.”

“Agreed,” Reyansh replied. “We aim to honor Zara’s vision completely.”

Ayesha’s eyes flickered briefly. “Speaking of Zara—”

Jai interjected smoothly, “Ms. Mehra has closely worked with Zara. In fact, she’s the only person who has seen Zara’s real face. Zara wishes to remain anonymous, so Ayesha will be acting as her spokesperson during production.”

Reyansh blinked, surprised but intrigued.

Ayesha added, “Zara’s condition is clear: her identity stays a secret. I’ll be here to ensure the adaptation reflects her intent faithfully.”

The room settled into a charged silence, the weight of hidden truths hovering just beneath the surface.

A whispered exchange between board members broke the tension.

“Do these two always spar like this?”

“Seems like they’re both too stubborn to back down.”

No one spoke of the unspoken history between Ayesha and Reyansh.

Jai’s eyes never left them. He noticed how Ayesha avoided Reyansh’s gaze, the way Reyansh’s calmness never faltered. The silence between them spoke volumes.

A faint smile curved Jai’s lips as he thought, This story is far from over.

With the contract signed, Reyansh stood.

“Looking forward to working with Nexa.”

Ayesha gave a small nod.

“Likewise.”

No handshake. No smiles. No personal words.

Reyansh turned and walked away, leaving Ayesha watching him for a moment before she instructed her assistant.

“Schedule the first production meeting.”

Alone in the now-empty conference room, Jai held the signed contract.

“Some stories don’t end when people walk away,” he murmured. “They wait for the right moment to begin again.”
