Chapter 1

(In honor of ELON MUSK)

THE PROMISE.

POV: ELON MUSK

Life in Pretoria, south Africa, wasn't exactly favorable, I had no friends, it was always I, my books and my computer.

I stand there at the front of the window, looking outside as the rain fell.

I wasn't in this world, my imagination had taken me far.

I look at the cloud thinking to my self. "How cool would it be to land on Mars?" Or better still, " how amazing would it be to leave this planet?" I kept thinking,as different questions kept popping in my mind, that I didn't even realize my mother had been calling on me.

"Elon, Elon, come take your food, dinner is served" she yells from the kitchen.

My focus was still on the cloud. "I truly wish I could leave this planet and reach planet Mars; I wish I could make a great difference in this world" I muttered to myself, but then I felt a soft touch on my shoulder.

"Elon, you are very smart, I know you'll definitely make not one but many great difference in this our world, you just need to figure out what this world is lacking and with that information you will make even the impossible, possible; but for now come eat, our tomorrow leader can't be great with an empty stomach" she says softly with a smiles plastered on her face as she cupped my face. She heard my words.

I felt happy, I felt loved; she didn't just understand me, she supports me and not just that she advised me, those words are words I would keep in hand. Words that would help me in the future.

I smile and hug her tightly. She hugs me back, planting a kiss on my forehead.

"Time to eat, now" she says and I nod, walking down to grab my food, sitting in the dining room. My siblings who were probably playing came out from their room to come eat too.

We all sit and eat.

We all sit in the room eating. I, my mother, my father, and my siblings.

"So, how was school today?" He ask and I cursed under my breath. School wasn't fine, not at all, I was always bullied, always seen as a fool in the mist of fools, who had no plans for themselves. It was stupid, but hurtful at the same time. I could remember the time, I was reading in the school premises, only to be attacked by the school bullies. They took away my book, tore out some pages, insulted me for always being focused on my book, poured water on both i and my books which they already tore pages from. I was hurt, I was annoyed, but I couldn't do nothing about it.

"School is so fun, we did a lot today, we even had extracurricular activities" Tosca says and I just scoff.

"School was full of knowledge, I learnt a lot" kimbal replies.

I didn't even say a word, my eyes on my meal as I kept eating.

"Elon, what of you?" Father asks, and again I cursed under my breath. Did he have to call me out, was it necessary to speak of my day at school. Don't get me wrong, I love school, the every five days knowledge at the school premises. The tests and examinations, the studying. Everything about school I loved and appreciated but the students where my problem, they were not helping, they were bullies who doesn't want the best for anyone.

"School?, school is fine, normal nothing changed, it's like every other day, normal" I admit, my eyes still glued on my meal.

"Fine, normal?, you sure?" He ask and I just nod.

I didn't speak after that, everyone continued the chit chat but I remained silent, any questions thrown at me, I would just nod to it.

After dinner, we cleared the table and got the dishes cleaned.

I go to the room, picked up my textbook to read, sitting on the bed.

I read and read, till I fell asleep doing that same activity.

I felt a soft hand tuck me in and a peck placed on my forehead. Hopefully, my tomorrow will be better than my today.

---------

Ding-ding-ding, the school bell rings for the next class.

I sit on my desk, with my books already placed on the table, waiting for my teacher who would be taking our class.

Immediately the teacher walks, lecture began.

During lectures questions were asked, and as our teacher threw the questions I kept answering each of them. The questions were part of what have read on, so it was easy for me to recall and answer each. Either before or after a topic in class I will always read ahead of the class, and still go through the once the teachers had thought; it had always been part of my daily routine and now just being seven years, it has become not just an habit but part of me.

"I would like to ask and I want answers from each and everyone of you,ok" Mr Matt asks and we all nod in response.

"What would you like to become in future, or better still, what would you like to achieve in life?" He ask this question and I thought to myself, "what do I want to smile to my self that I aimed in the future?."

One by one everyone answers to the questions he asks, few doctors, few wanted to be the first person to be on the 1000th bill board and even so much more.

When the question finally got to me to give my answered saying "I would like to make a big difference in life, I would like to use computer to make our world better, I would like to save humanity from a lot of stress, I would like to land on Mars, I want to go beyond the clouds and reach space, I want to be a scientist." I courageous answer with a smile on my face, but this smile didn't last long, I got laughed on. The whole class mocked me. I felt ashamed, But looking at the teacher he looked surprised or was he amazed or impressed, I wasn't too sure, but he didn't say a word he just smiled.

After the teacher little expression, he silence the laughing pupils. " Wow, I'm impressed, those are all wonderful occupations and aims, all the very best in life" he says amazed to everyone but I felt as though those words were actually for me "all the very best in life," I smile.

After the class, which was our last, I pack my bag, and walk out of the classroom leaving the premises but as I reach the school compound I was pushed to the ground, only to look back it was the bullies from class.

"Leave me alone" I yell.

"Shut the hell up" one says before the other speaks " I would like to land on Mars, I want to go beyond the clouds and reach space, I want to be a scientist" he mimicks me and they all laugh.

"Fool, you can never be great, none of those stupid words you said can ever happen, you are too full of your self. Do you really feel you will achieve all that? With which money? Huh, with which resources? You will never make it, your future will be trash as your present is" the third spat.

They all laugh and mock me some more before leaving. I was speechless, I couldn't defend my self. Tears just rolled down.

I took my bag, got up and ran out of the premises. "I'm such a fool, such a fool for saying all that" i muttered under my breath as my voice crack.

I made my way out of the gate only to spot my mom, I ran to her. "I never want to come to school again" I cry out. She pets me "hey, don't say that, ok.What happened?" She asks concerned. I didn't tell her, I just ask "mom will I ever be great in life?"

"Elon dear, you won't just be great, you will be very successful and powerful, just work your very hardest" she answers cleaning away my tears.

And from that day I promised my self I will make my way to the top, I will make my self, my mom and family proud. I will shun all my mockers.

"I will be great. I'm never giving up."

The school gate closed behind me.

But in my head, the door to Mars had just opened.

Author's Note

Thank you for reading this story.

This is about a 7-year-old boy who was bullied, doubted, and told "you can't" every single day.

He chose to believe "I can" anyway.

He chose Mars anyway.

I wrote this because I believe every kid who's ever been laughed at deserves to know:

Your dream is valid, even when you're the only one who sees it.

If you've ever been told you're too small to dream big... this is for you.

Thank you once more for giving 7- year-old Elon 5 minutes of your time.

Impossible is just an opinion.

This is where "I'm never giving up" began.
