Chapter 1
Monaco was a strip of Mediterranean coastline defined by steep cliffs, superyachts, and extreme wealth.
It was a place where privacy was the highest currency, and the residents moved through marble lobbies and private casinos with practiced detachment.
In the center of this environment lived Roshina Ijaz Khan.
Roshina had risen to international prominence by building Fedora Makeups, a conglomerate valued at $700 million.
She had started the company at age 18, utilizing her background in chemistry and an early education in economics provided by her father, the former President of the National Bank of Pakistan.
While her peers were focused on social milestones, Roshina spent her youth analyzing market trends and developing cosmetic formulas.
Her products succeeded because they were chemically advanced and effective, allowing her to capture a massive share of the global market by age 27.
The brand name, Fedora, honored her mother, Fedora Ijaz.
Her mother was born into the Liechtenstein royal family and had been a model for Dior before her marriage.
As the next in line to the throne of Liechtenstein, her mother ensured that Roshina grew up navigating two distinct cultures: her Pakistani heritage and her European royal background.
Despite their public prominence, the family maintained an intense level of privacy; during her childhood in Pakistan, Roshina was kept out of the media spotlight to ensure a standard upbringing.
By the time Roshina reached adulthood and established her headquarters in Monaco, she had abandoned that anonymity.
She became a fixture in European elite circles, known for being blunt, impulsive, and uncompromising.
She operated with a cold, apathetic efficiency, frequently criticizing social conventions and the people who upheld them.
In Monaco, she occupied a unique position; her immense wealth and royal lineage granted her the license to speak with total, often harsh, transparency, and she exercised this freedom without regard for the opinions of those around her.
Among the elite, she was known as "The Court Jester." This title highlighted her habit of cutting through the rigid formalities of modern high society with blunt, biting truths, wielding her social immunity to mock the very status and decorum that everyone else in Monaco worked so hard to maintain.

Roshina leaned back in her high-backed leather chair, the silence of her Monaco office suddenly feeling heavy.
She let out a long, ragged sigh, the kind that usually signaled a plummeting stock or a botched PR move, but today it was triggered by nothing more than the final pages of an Urdu novel.
Matilda Alison, the 34-year-old CEO who ran the day-to-day operations of Fedora Makeups with a ruthless efficiency that intimidated men twice her age, didn't even look up from her tablet.
With her sharp blonde hair pulled back and her icy grey eyes scanning the latest quarterly projections, she simply arched a perfectly groomed brow.
"Problems, Roshina?" Matilda asked, her voice clipped and professional. "Or just the usual boredom with the world?"
Roshina tossed the novel onto her mahogany desk with a dramatic flair. "It’s Salar Sikandar," she declared, her eyes narrowing with genuine indignation.
"I’m reading Peer-e-Kamil, and I am—for lack of a better word—absolutely furious."
Matilda paused, finally setting her tablet aside to fix her employer with a steady, unimpressed stare.
"The character from the book? You’re fuming over a fictional man’s resume?"
"He has a history, Matilda!" Roshina gestured wildly at the book.
"He spent his youth as a reckless genius with a massive ego. He had these... these girls—Cynthia, and the others—flitting in and out of his life while he was in America, living like he had no soul. How dare he? How dare he have such a colorful past and increase his body count before he even met Imama? It’s offensive."
Matilda let out a short, sharp laugh, shaking her head as she leaned against the doorframe.
"Roshina, look at yourself. You’re the 'Ice Queen' of Monaco, a woman who hasn't shed a tear for a living breathing human in years, and here you are, getting jealous over a man who literally only exists on paper."
Roshina pouted, crossing her arms over her chest with a mock-offended huff.
"You’re being harsh, Matilda. You have no appreciation for the emotional betrayal of a character development arc."
"I have an appreciation for time management," Matilda replied, her tone softening with the blunt, sisterly affection that had kept them working together for years.
"I’d much rather see you get this worked up over a real man—though, given your track record, I suppose I should be grateful you're settling for fiction instead of destroying some poor billionaire’s reputation for fun."
Roshina smirked, the expression sharp and fleeting.
It was the look that had earned her the title of "The Jestress" among the high-society elites of Monaco.
In a world of carefully curated reputations and stifling decorum, she operated with a total disregard for the status quo.
No one dared to challenge her, because her wealth was as immense as her audacity, and she delighted in tearing down the pretenses of those who thought themselves untouchable.
Matilda watched her with a weary, knowing gaze. She switched to Urdu, her accent precise and firm.
"Roshina, tum bohot bigdi hui bachi ho. Kisi din tumhari achi tarah pitayi hogi."
(Roshina, you are a very spoiled brat. One day you will get a good spanking.)
Roshina laughed, a bright, mocking sound that echoed against the glass walls of the office.
"Matilda, your Urdu is actually getting quite good. Tell me, are you learning the language exclusively so you can insult and curse at me in private?"
Matilda didn't miss a beat, a thin smile touching her lips. "You know me so well, don't you?"
Roshina settled back into her chair, her smirk fading into a more contemplative expression.
"You should really come to Pakistan with me soon. I’m leaving next week to visit my mother and father, and it’s about time you saw where I actually came from before all this."
Matilda nodded, picking up her tablet to resume her work. "I’ll make the arrangements for the trip soon, Roshina. Just try not to get into any trouble before we leave."
