Preface
There are some many people in this world — six plus billion to be a little bit more accurate. How many parents are there? How many children are there? So so many. The census shows that there are approximately four children born every second around the world. Four children every second; that’s about 240 children a minute. Now think about that: with every child, not one but two parents are born. Look at the math now - eight parents are born every second. How many parents are born in a year? You might think that there are parents who already had children and that the math shouldn’t include such parents. However, with every child, a new parent is born. There are so many movies where the parents react differently to their children - some children get lot more attention, some children get scolded more, and some children may even get spanked. Feel justified in counting the parents multiple times?
Now, have you sat on a lazy Sunday, with a cup of your favorite beverage and ruminated on the effect of your parents on your behavior? What about who you are as a parent if you’re one, or who you want to be as a parent if that’s on your goal list? What were your thoughts? Now, these short stories are fictional but inspired by some real-life stories that I have had the opportunity of being witness — I’m no wizard to enchant a story out of thin air! They follow parents on their journey of parenthood and their children as they grow up into parenthood. You will see a pattern emerging, and I would like to request you to watch out for those models. They undoubtedly have affected me and my perceptions, perspectives of parenting. I’m an (East) Indian woman, and I’ve lived in the United States for a long while now. Hence the short stories are located in those places that are familiar to me. I hope you’ll enjoy these stories.
