LILA
Today’s class was boring. I really wanted out from this school. It was very bad, just bad. It was big and beautiful yeah but all the lecturers were old and boring, the students were two-faced idiots, and the food here was not as good as back home.
I missed home.
The life I had here couldn’t compare to the one I had at home. This life was quiet, boring and controlled. I went to school, went to work, and went back home. It was as simple as that. I didn’t like this life, I never did but I was doing this for my family. They needed me here so I was here.
I sighed in relief when the lecturer dismissed the class. I packed my books back in my bag and got up from my seat and walked out of the hall. I passed by Elliot who didn’t even spare me a glance. Yeah, I deserved that. He wasn’t my ex, he’s what this generation called a situationship. It was a freshman thing I fell into. I blamed myself for allowing myself to think for one minute I could pull someone like him. I blamed myself for even falling for someone like him.
I walked out of school and I felt arms interlock my arms and I smiled, “Hey guys.” I greeted. These were my two best friends I had made here. Irina and Kayla. They began talking about their day and what they were going to do tonight.
“So you joining us tonight?” Irina asked and I shook my head.
“I have work.”
Kayla groaned rolling her eyes, “Pretty sure marketing doesn’t take most people’s time like your work does. You always say no to going out with us.”
“It’s not every time.” I pouted.
“Yeah she joins on Mondays. And is basically with us morning as afternoons on weekdays.” Irina defended me.
Kayla shook her head no agreeing, “Still. I mean we’re best friends. We should hang out everyday, go out-”
“He’s looking at you again.” Irina cut her off and I looked up and saw who it was.
It was him.
The guy who’s been staring at me for two school years. This semester will make it the beginning of a third school year he’s staring at me. I mean he’s handsome, but I vowed never to entertain any guy after Elliot.
“He looks at everyone like that. I think he just likes staring. I caught him looking at me the other day.” Kayla said curling her hair on her finger as he passed.
“No. He’s looking at Lila. He always looks at her.” Irina said.
Kayla scoffed rolling her eyes, “Let’s change the subject. We don’t even know his name.”
“He’s cute though.” Irina murmured and Kayla began talking about her nails she just got done
To be honest, I don’t know why I was friends with Kayla. She’s what you would call a backstabbing friend. She was one of the reasons Elliot and I never happened. She said they vibed over the internet and she kept rubbing it on my face that she spoke to him. I made it known to them that I liked him and she went on and texted him. They moved so fast from WhatsApp to Snap in a second. It was like I never existed. It was like we never even knew each other. He acted like he never knew me. It hurt a lot. Took a whole school year to get over him, but when I look at him, my heart still hurts. I decided to not lower my pride again and text him. My dad and brother would kill me if they found out I lowered this much pride for a guy who only acted nonchalant.
We valued pride in my family.
The girls and I walked to our hostel, and we separated ways to our rooms. We all had different roommates. My roommate and I were more in an amicable relationship. There could be days where we didn’t talk to each other and days we talked the whole day. She and I had an understanding too, we weren’t close but we weren’t enemies either. I took a short nap and woke up when my alarm rang. I got dressed in jeans and a shirt and picked my bag and walked out of the room. I took a cab and got to work. “Another stressful day.” I murmured looking at the huge hospital building and got inside.
I took out my card from my bag and put it on the system and it recorded my attendance. I walked to the locker room and opened my locker taking out my clothes. I changed into scrubs and white sneakers and put my bag and clothes inside. I put my hair in a low ponytail then closed my locker and walked out of the room and was heading to the residents’ lounge when Nancy, the head nurse pushed a clip board to me, “Lila you’re up. Bay three.”
I nodded, “Alright, let me grab my coat.” I said and walked to the lounge and opened my locker taking out my white coat and wore over my scrubs.
I closed my locker. “Shift started?” I jumped and turned seeing Dr. Jenson sitting up on the couch he was lying on.
I nodded, “Yeah. Why do you look like death?” I asked. He looked like he could get some sleep. He had dark circles around his eyes, he looked like a raccoon.
“I just pulled a 72-hour shift with no sleep. So I decided to get some sleep before finishing the remaining twelve hours that I have left.”
I pursed my lips, “That bad?”
The door opened and a nurse came in, “Dr. Jenson, you’re needed in trauma.” she said before closing the door.
“That bad.” I laughed and he glared at me before sighing and getting up. “See you later Dr. Lopez.”
