Chapter 1
“Why are you crying?” he asks as we lie entwined amongst the linen.
“Because my heart is happy..and I’m going home today.”
“My best girl,” he murmurs as he stares into the watery pools. “There’s a lot happening behind those eyes.”
“I don’t want to leave you. I want to stay like this..forever.”
He reaches up and gently wipes the tear from my cheek.
“I caught that one for you.”
He pulls me closer, wrapping me in his arms. I close my eyes and breathe him in, committing the moment to memory.
For just a little while longer, I let myself pretend.
Pretend that I’m not leaving.
Pretend that this is our life.
Pretend that when I open my eyes, I’ll still be here..
for the rest of my days.
