"I appreciate how some people on both sides of the conflict think. In reality, no one ever wins a war; we all either lose loved ones or are lost to them. This is the powerful message this story conveys. It's a book we all need to read to comprehend what it genuinely feels like to experience such loss. I recommend it without reservation!"
The Story of a Soldier (Like So Many Others)
"I was excited to see this WWI story when I found this author's page. I chastised him that he only had one chapter written, that he should get busy and post more. For I am an avid history buff. This writer reminded me, in the midst of his chapter that...history is often just words on a page. But WAR...is human blood and death and men who never got to return home. I realized, I too, have a tendency to glorify it. I delude myself that it's the soldiers I am glorifying but of course...it isn't. The writer reminded, ever so eloquently, that war is fought by those who never intend to wage it. But by politicians, who will never see a battlefield. But military men who send others out to die while they stay safely in war rooms, plotting out their 'pawns' deaths. Norman men who were not asked if they wanted war. On both sides. Only leaders decide such weighty matters. The writer remembered all these things. The writer bluntly told the tale through one soldier's eyes. through that solder we are reminded. He is just like his enemy. They carry the same mementos from home, a faded letter, an old photo, a silver cross bout their neck. But inside...they want the same thing. They want to go home again, to their girls, to their moms...just home. I cried through this entire story. I think everyone should cry through this story. We need to be reminded. We need to remember so next time, maybe sons will not have to give life in foreign places far from home. A poignantly soft 'letter' that every human should be required to read. Brilliantly told, gently loved by one soldier...this is the story of every man who gave his life for...an idea. A hope, a dream...that others could live that dream but...not him. Not...him. "
A new, short story worth many praise
"When I had first stumbled across this story, by this new, aspiring artist, I did not know what to expect. How good would it really be? As I read through it though, I only grew more and more stupefied as I found out how well the artist really wrote. A true pearl amongst waves, this love letter to "All Quiet on the Western Front" and the war of man in general manages to be extremely impactful, gratuitously teetering across the fine edge of compelling, intensive action and soulful, mature introspection. The pacing is great, every space, paragraph, and punctuation serving with the ultimate goal of building tension, of engrossing you, the reader, into this very real world of horror, full of chaos and plight, but also hope. Likewise, the language and the writing style is very rich, full to the brim with vivid words. And overall, the plot itself is gripping and thoughtful, making me want to rethink many aspects of my very life. In conclusion, I highly recommend this short, heartrending story to anyone who enjoys great, breath taking action AND moments of pure, raw humanity viewed through an emphatic lens, admits all the culturally ingrained romantisation of wars of our and yore societies. "

The sounds of war
"I liked how the main character shares backstory with the readers... like Greta. Also describes who wins in wars- the politicians, the rich men... it’s never the Everyman. Poignant and brutally sad when Franz realizes he too is dying for the war. And the poppy. My daddy was in the Navy and we always had a poppy hanging on the mirror in our cars. It’s such a symbol of the costs of war. "
