Prologue
The air in the Dahl household is heavy. While the world moved outside, inside no one had moved in hours.
Not since Katrina was brought back home in a confused state after being missing for five years.
On one couch sat her adoptive parents, Roman and Eden Dahl, the other couch had her biological parents Odin and Frigga, while Gia, the Dahl's biological daughter and Riley Sheppard, Katrina's best friend stood close by.
On the coffee table sat the file of what happened to Katrina along with two wedding rings on a silver chain.
They all had been staring at them both for hours while Katrina was asleep in her old room.
No one had moved or said a word.
How could they?
Katrina had been out through hell for five years while her family searched for her.
After what seemed like 5 minutes, Roman stands up his body still trembling with fury and heartbreak and walks to one of the large windows and stares out of it, mind racing as he tries to think of something, anything to say
"I'm so sorry Odin, Frigga" he says quietly, voice trembling "I didn't-want to alter her mind and cut that connection bu-but I had to, for her sake and yours"
Standing up, Odin walks and stands next to Roman
"I know" he responds quietly, placing a hand on his shoulder.
On the couch still, Frigga sniffles as she nods her head in acknowledgment to Roman's words
"You did what was needed to keep her safe" Frigga responds softly as she leans forward in her spot
Eden also leans forward in her spot and holds Frigga's hands, squeezing them softly
"What happens now?" Riley asks sadly, as she looks down at the ground as tears stream down her face.
Everyone tenses at Riley's words before Eden responds
"We keep this hidden from Katrina, if she finds out it'll break her" Eden whispers
"It also means she'll never get to meet us" Frigga chimes in sadly.
Riley nods her head softly at their words.
Silence falls over everyone again, it had been decided.
Katrina would never know anything, her mind had already been altered and so would time around her.
Then a loud sob breaks the silence.
Gia breaks down as she falls to her knees, as she grabs the chain with the two rings on it.
Her little sister would never be the same, ever again.
Thanks to HYDRA taking away the life she was building.
