Chapter 1

Today is my birthday and I’m turning 16. “Yay”.

Not.

“Alexis get the fuck up. I’m not dealing with your fat ass any longer. It’s time to meet your father.” I jerked out of my bed as she yelled at me through my closed door.

“Wait, my dead beat father?! I thought you didn’t know who he was. That I was born from a one night stand?!” I asked as I tore open my bedroom door. I stood there in my comfortable pajamas and watched as she took a big gulp of alcohol.

Great, just what we need more alcohol in her body.

I let out a sigh as she said,

“You are a one night stand baby and I can’t wait to get rid of your ass. I’m so tired if having to deal with you and your FASD. I’m done with your outbursts and shit like that. Your victim mindset and everything. You are a mistake but I’m not a murderer and I didn’t want to leave you on the streets in case he would find you before I was ready for him to know.”

I refused to flinch. Her words shouldn’t hurt me anymore but they did.

“Get ready and pack the essentials you need including your crazy pills. We are leaving at 10:30, and we will make it to Lebanon, Kansas around 5:30. Now get!” And I flinched.

Great.

I shut the door softly and got dressed into a baggy t-shirt and baggy sweats. The most comfortable clothing I owned. I grabbed a duffle bag and shoved my clothes and some fantasy books along with my hygiene stuff into the bag with care. I shoved on my red ankle high vans and tied them before I grabbed my bag and headed for my meds so I could pack them as well.

I let out a sigh as I headed to my mothers car. I didn’t need to bring my non existant phone because I didn’t need it.

(Smirk)

I sat in the back seat and proceeded to fall asleep.

Several hours later

We jerked to a hault and I let out a startled screech as I was torn out of my slumber. I sat up in a flail of limbs my hair a mess and a little bit of slobber on my chin. I wiped it away embarressed. I looked out the window to see a bunker like building that looked kinda homey to me. But of course my mother scoffed and said,

“Of course he lives in this shit hole.”

I scowled at her as we got out of her beat up Ford. I turned to see a black 1967 cheverlet Impala. It was so shiny I could see my reflection and I could see myself staring at it with my jaw on the ground.

My mother scowled as she grabbed my arm in a vise like grip and yanked me towards the door. We got up to the door and my mother pounded her fist against it like she was the fucking police.

The door swung open and both my mother and I were splashed with cold water and I spit it out while I reached both hands up to wipe my eyes clean of the water.

“What the actual fuck, Dean!” Mother screamed and I flinched like she was yelling at me.

The guy in front of me looked old enough to be my father. Wait was he my father? I didn’t fucking know!

“Who the fuck are you?” The Dean guy if that was even his name snarled out.

“Why am I not surprised that our one night stand 16 years ago wasn’t good enough to remember me. Oh, and by the way this brat is your daughter. I can’t deal with her shit anymore so she’s your problem.” I wince and stare at the ground in shame.

The silence was deafening as she turned around and left me on the doorstep like I was a baby she didn’t want anymore.

Wait that’s exactly what I am. But I’m not a baby anymore.

I looked up fighting the tears that I knew was about to fall free. And I see my father’s dumb struck face.
