Chapter 1 - The Radioactive Failures
The atmosphere was sunny and pleasant. Birds chirped and wandered merrily about.
The Earth was beautiful, including its inhabitants. Nature was in favour of Earth. People were seen going merrily about their businesses. It was a busy day. All kinds of people were moving about, including humans and chimeras.
Yes, chimeras.
Chimeras were humans. Humans with exceptional abilities. They were powerful humans whose powers were due to radioactive experiments conducted on human test subjects.
Dr. Hanson was the head scientist who experimented on these humans with his crew of scientists. The humans used were both voluntary and involuntary test subjects. Some signed up for these experiments of their own free will, while others were forced into them.
The aim of these experiments was to create an army of monsters to govern the whole world.
They wanted the monsters to have two strands of different DNA—that of a human and that of a dinosaur. They would have two faces, half human and half dinosaur, with powers that could control and even end the world. They would be extremely dangerous and feared by everyone except Dr. Hanson and his crew of scientists, the monster controllers.
They experimented on 1,000 humans all over the world.
The first hundred humans couldn't survive the experiments. They died halfway through them.
The next seven hundred managed to survive until the end of the experiments. They did survive the experiments, but they couldn't possess the monster traits.
They did turn out exceptional and powerful, each with his or her own unique abilities—abilities ordinary humans couldn't possess. Some could become invisible, some were shapeshifters, some could transform into animals, some were illusionists, and many more.
They did turn out to be powerful and extraordinary, but the scientists weren't satisfied. They wanted an army of monsters, not an army of chimeras.
It didn't matter what people thought. Others called the chimeras the results of radioactive experiments, but to the scientists, the chimeras were the results of radioactive failures.
Failure wasn't an option.
They needed to be eliminated.
But elimination posed another problem. Chimeras were almost immortal. They had the ability to heal and even regenerate stagnant and dormant cells that had died due to injury or infection.
Even though they possessed two different pairs of DNA and RNA, they were still failures, so the scientists engaged in research in order to come up with a means of destroying the seven hundred chimeras.
They did manage to find the solution after six months of research.
The solution was simple.
Chimeras could only be killed with a silver bullet coated with a mixture of wolfsbane and mountain ash.
Once the solution was found, the hunt for the chimeras began. Soon, the population of the chimeras started diminishing.
Soon, a race of seven hundred chimeras became a few hundred. As the race kept diminishing, the chimeras knew better than to keep fighting. They were losing, and if they didn't want their race to become extinct, they had to quit fighting and do what ordinary humans would do.
Run.
And so, an almost extinct population of 300 remaining chimeras left their families, their homes, and everything and everyone they had come to adore and cherish for a hidden place, isolated from the rest of mankind. A place safe from Dr. Hanson and his faithful scientists. A place safe from the future army of monsters.
They named their race Aurelia and were ruled by a supreme leader whose name was Blake.
He was a powerful leader in his late twenties. He had the ability to control the weather.
He was thunder itself, one of the most powerful chimeras ever created. The only chimera among the seven hundred chimeras who almost became a success—a monster. It was a small mistake from one of the scientists that made him a failure, a chimera.
He was so powerful and dangerous—very dangerous when angry—that smoke containing carbon (II) oxide would be emitted from him and destroy everyone present, everyone except himself. If he became extremely angry, he could create volcanoes and hurricanes that could destroy an entire city. Aside from his anger, he was a fearless, powerful, and admirable leader of Aurelia.
