" I haven’t cried like this over a story in a long time. "The Cobbler of Hungry Highway" isn’t about a road. It’s about memory. About the people we forget. About the debts we inherit. Baba Sule putting one boot on the highway every night at 11:57pm broke me. Zainab carrying that burden at 22 broke me more. And Ibrahim’s blue boot?? I’m not okay. This story feels like Owerri. Like sweat, and akara, and danfo horns, and the kind of magic that lives in the cracks of real life. The writing is so quiet but it hits like a trailer. By Chapter 6 I was sobbing. “Roads are not just tar. They are the people who built them.” If you’ve ever felt unseen, if you’ve ever walked a road and never said thank you - read this.
