Chapter 1: Asian Dark

The lobby doors of the Courtyard Hotel hissed open as a commanding presence stepped inside. Standing 5′10" and a muscular 220 pounds, Asian Dark moved with a heavy, deliberate stride that made her surroundings feel small. She paid for a single night’s stay without a word of small talk, her expression unreadable as the front desk clerk handed over the keycard.
Room 316.
She swiped the card, the lock clicked green, and she pushed the door open. The room was standard—two neatly made double beds, a desk, and a window overlooking the quiet evening outside.
She walked in, setting her heavy laptop bag on the desk near the window. Unzipping it with cold precision, she pulled out the sleek laptop, flipped the screen open, and powered it up. The pale blue light lit up her focused eyes.
She didn’t waste a second on unpacking. Her fingers hit the keyboard, initiating a targeted search across the network.
The objective was clear: locate Terrex J. Corbin and take the journal.
Her fingers flew across the keyboard, running an advanced tracking scan to trace every single location where the journal’s power signature had been detected. A list of coordinates, timestamps, and familiar street names filled the screen.
She memorized the trail instantly.
Closing the laptop, Asian Dark stood up, her massive frame casting a long shadow across Room 316. She wasn’t going to sit around and wait for updates. It was time to hit the ground running.
She stepped out of the hotel room, locked the door behind her, and headed out into the Waterbury night—ready to hit every last location until she tracked you down.
Her first target popped up on the grid: Spirit Café, 94 Bank Street.
It wasn’t far from the Courtyard Hotel. The journal had left a trace there, and the café was still open for the night.
Asian Dark stepped out into the evening air, her heavy, deliberate footsteps echoing against the pavement. Her eyes were fixed ahead, completely unbothered by the cool breeze or the ambient city noise. At 5′10" and 220 pounds of sheer muscle, she cut a terrifying profile against the streetlights, moving with the cold, single-minded focus of a machine.
She turned onto Bank Street, the glowing sign of Spirit Café coming into view up ahead.
The glass door chimed as Asian Dark pushed her way inside Spirit Café.
The warmth of the café hit her, along with the smell of roasted coffee beans, but her expression didn’t shift an inch. Her massive frame immediately drew eyes from a couple of late-night regulars sitting at small tables, but she ignored them entirely, making a direct line for the counter.
The floorboards groaned slightly under her heavy, powerful stride.
She stopped right at the register, towering over the counter. She didn’t order a drink or scan the menu. Her intense, unblinking glare locked onto the barista behind the counter.
“I need the person on duty,” she said, her voice dropping cold and firm, cutting through the low ambient music of the shop. “Now.”
“I’m the person on duty. What can I get you?” the waitress asked
“I’m not here for coffee,” Asian Dark replied, her voice smooth, deep, and utterly devoid of warmth.
She leaned forward slightly, resting two thick, heavily muscled forearms on the wooden counter. The wood gave a faint creak under her weight. Up close, her massive 220-pound frame made the space behind the counter feel impossibly small, and her dark, cold eyes fixed onto the waitress with zero hesitation.
“I’m looking for a specific journal,” she said, pulling a folded printout from her jacket pocket and laying it flat on the counter. “And the man who had it. Terrex.”
She tapped a thick finger against the paper, right over a coarse map layout of Bank Street.
“The power signature pinged right here in this café. Tell me when he was here, who he was with, and which direction he walked when he left. And don’t make me ask twice.”
“idk who terrex is, but if I had to guess, he went down Bank Street towards the green,” she said
Asian Dark stared down at the waitress for a long, heavy beat. She didn’t blink. She didn’t shift her posture. The tension in the quiet café stretched so tight it felt like it might snap the glass windows.
Finally, she leaned in just an inch closer, her shadow completely swallowing the counter.
“Smart choice,” Asian Dark murmured, her voice a low rumble. “Guessing wrong would have been... unfortunate.”
She swiped the paper off the counter with a single fluid motion and turned on her heel. The floorboards creaked once more under her weight as she marched toward the exit, ignoring the stunned silence of the regulars watching her every move.
She pushed through the glass door of Spirit Café and stepped back out into the cool Waterbury air. She paused on the sidewalk of Bank Street, her sharp eyes cutting down toward the shadows of the Green.
The tracker in her mind recalibrated. The pulse was fainter now, but it pointed directly toward the central park area.
Then her phone rings as she answers, “Hello?” asian said, “AH! asian i see you're looking for me. Well, I’m not hard to find if you want to meet me. Come alone at 10 am Thursday, and we’ll talk.” I said as I hung up
Asian Dark pulled the phone away from her ear, the line going dead with a sharp click.
A slow, terrifying smirk cracked across her face as she looked down at the dark screen. The cold, mechanical focus in her eyes flared into something vicious. She wasn’t just following a faint energy trail anymore—she had a direct invitation.
“Thursday morning. Ten o’clock,” she muttered to herself, her voice a low rumble on the quiet sidewalk of Bank Street.
She shoved the phone back into her pocket and turned her head toward the dark expanse of the Green. You thought you were giving her a challenge, but all you really did was give a top-tier predator a deadline and a target.
She turned on her heel and started heading back down Bank Street toward the Courtyard Hotel. She didn’t need to chase phantom pings through the city tonight. She had twelve hours to prepare, prep her gear, and make sure she was at absolute peak strength when 10:00 AM rolled around.
