The unexpected opportunity
I couldn't believe I was later choosing for the "summer lover" movie. I have been part of those auditioning and I have less believe that I would make it. "Mr Loud, are sure you ready for this, I don't need all this spacing out" the manager said pulling out of my thoughts. "Yes am sorry sir". "I will need you to vigilant and also to know the pros and cons of everything, this is not a playground" . He said looking at me with displeased eyes . " Yes sir" . I said to his retreating back. Am used to those cold shoulders already so it doesn't get to me much. It just hurt alot sometimes just like now.
As soon as the manager left, I quickly packed my things. This felt like a dream come true. I never imagined I'd be given an opportunity like this.
DREAMERS Entertainment Company
( a whole big entertainment company in Thailand and over countries assigning actors and actresses from different regions but mainly for bl and gl. No other genre and they are widely recognised and respected, no scandal since they've started this journey and up to date).
I checked it up on the internet before coming over for audition. Don't want to work for a problematic company with suffocative casts. I am not a problem person and wouldn't want one coming to me so I just tend to stay for away from them.
I'm in desperate need of money. My mother is bedridden with stage-four cancer, and I can't afford her treatment. On top of that, I have to take care of my younger twin sisters and pay all our bills. We have no relatives to rely on, no close friends to help us-it's just me carrying everything alone.
I've always believed I was straight. I never imagined I'd find myself in this kind of situation. But life has pushed me into a corner, and right now, this feels like my only chance to save my family.
Flashback - A Bar
"I'm so tired of everything," I muttered as I took another sip of my drink.
A stranger sat beside me. Dressed completely in black from head to toe, with a face mask and a cap hiding most of his face, he looked suspicious. Who dresses like that? For a second, I wondered if he was some kind of serial killer. But honestly, I was too exhausted to care.
"Hi," the stranger said.
I gave him a strange look. Why is he talking to me? Please don't kill me today.
"I overheard you saying you're tired of everything. I can't solve all your problems, but I think I might have an opportunity for you. You have the kind of face that would look great on screen. Have you ever thought about becoming an actor?"
Great. Not only does he look suspicious, but now he's talking to strangers in bars.
"Who are you?" I asked cautiously.
"My name is James. I'm a director at DREAMERS Entertainment Company.". "
I was still unconvinced.
"I direct BL and GL productions. I'm looking for a new actor, and I think you fit the role perfectly. You have a soft, unique appearance that audiences will remember. Of course, you'll still have to pass the audition first."
"So... you're choosing me because of my appearance?" I asked, still confused. What's his real motive?
"It's a win-win situation," James replied. "You look like someone who's carrying a heavy burden. I need an actor, and you need an opportunity. If you pass the audition, you'll play one half of the main couple. I believe you have what it takes."
"Is that all?" I asked.
"Yes." He reached into his pocket and handed me a business card. "Call me after you've passed the audition. I'll be waiting for your call."
He smiled as I took the card, revealing a perfect row of white teeth. Somehow, that only made me more suspicious.
I stood up to leave, but he gently grabbed my wrist.
"Wait. Aren't you going to ask how much you'll be paid?"
"The amount doesn't matter right now," I replied. "As long as it's enough to help my family."
James smiled.
"Good answer. I'll see you soon."
He let go of my wrist and walked away.
I watched him disappear into the crowd, still wondering if this was fate... or the beginning of a dangerous mistake.
Present - Outside the DREAMERS Entertainment Building
I took the business card out of my wallet and dialed the number. My heart pounded as the phone rang. After a few seconds, someone answered.
"Hello?"
"Is this Director James?" I asked nervously.
"Yes. Who's speaking?"
"I'm the guy you gave your business card to the other night. I passed the audition."
"Oh? You passed already?" he asked, sounding slightly surprised.
"Yes, sir. I'm outside the company building right now. I was wondering if you're available."
"I am. I'll send someone to pick you up. Wait there for a few minutes."
Before I could say another word, he ended the call.
Seriously? He hung up already? What a rude man.
That creepy man in black...
A few minutes later, a young man walked up to me with a bright smile. He startled me at first, but unlike Director James, he looked warm and approachable. Somehow, he reminded me of my younger sisters.
"Hi. Are you the one Director James asked me to pick up?" he asked.
"Yes, that's me."
"Great. Please follow me."
I followed him into the building. The lobby was huge, with modern decorations and framed posters of famous actors hanging on the walls. My nervousness grew with every step.
After taking the elevator, we stopped in front of a large office.
He knocked gently before opening the door.
"Director James, he's here."
I stepped inside and bowed politely.
"Good afternoon, sir."
Director James looked up from his desk and smiled.
"I'm glad you made it. Welcome to DREAMERS Entertainment."
He turned to the young man beside me.
"This is my personal assistant, Ethan. If you ever need anything or have any questions, he'll help you."
Ethan smiled and held out his hand.
"Nice to meet you. I hope we'll work well together."
I shook his hand, still trying to convince myself that everything happening today was real.
"I've never done anything like this before," I admitted. "I don't know where to start or what I'm getting myself into."
Director James nodded.
"That's understandable. I'll send you some videos to watch so you can learn the basics. And this..." he said, handing me a thick script, "...is the script you'll study before filming begins."
He leaned back in his chair before continuing.
"I need you to read it carefully and understand your character. Watch the training videos as well. Your co-star is currently out of the country, so you won't be able to meet him yet. However, I'll give you his contact information. I want the two of you to get to know each other and build good chemistry before filming starts."
I silently sighed in relief. So there really is another actor. For a moment, I wondered why I was the only one receiving all these instructions.
"I understand, sir. I'll watch the videos, study the script carefully, and do my best. Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity."
Director James gave me a satisfied smile.
"Good. That's all for today. I'll contact you again with the filming schedule and any additional information."
His expression suddenly became serious.
"One more thing. Everything you see or hear in this company is strictly confidential. Nothing leaves this building unless I approve it."
I straightened my posture immediately.
"Yes, sir. My lips are sealed."
He nodded once.
"Good. You may leave."
I thanked him again before leaving the office. After saying goodbye to Ethan, I caught the last bus top home.
By the time I got home, exhaustion hit me at once. I threw myself on the bed, too tired to move another muscle.
I'm so tired...
I had barely closed my eyes when I remembered my twin sisters would be home in about an hour. With a heavy sigh, I forced myself out of bed to prepare lunch for them.
As soon as I stepped into the kitchen, I froze.
The cupboards were almost empty.
"Ah... not again."
We had run out of groceries.
I grabbed my wallet, slipped on my shoes, and headed to the nearest supermarket.
After buying everything we needed, I started walking back home with two shopping bags in my hands. While trying to put my phone back into my pocket, I accidentally bumped into someone.
The groceries flew out of my hands, scattering across the sidewalk. My phone slipped from my grip and landed on the ground with a loud thud.
"Oh no..." I muttered, kneeling to pick everything up.
"I'm so sorry!" the stranger apologized immediately. "I wasn't paying attention."
I sighed. The damage had already been done.
When I finally looked up...
I froze.
He's... unbelievably handsome.
His features were sharp yet gentle, and he carried himself with effortless confidence. Without any makeup or filters, he looked like he had stepped out of a magazine.
Wow... Thai men really are handsome.
"I'm really sorry," he said again. "This was my fault."
He bent down to help gather the groceries before taking a thick envelope from his pocket.
"Please take this. It should be enough to replace anything that was damaged, including your phone."
Before I could refuse, he placed the envelope in my hand.
"I have to go. Once again, I'm sorry."
He gave me a polite smile and walked away.
I stood there, speechless.
What just happened?
Everything had happened so fast that I couldn't even react.
I checked my phone.
Luckily, it only had a small scratch.
I picked up the groceries that were still usable and continued walking home, still unable to get the stranger's face out of my mind.
My twin sisters would be back from school soon.
As expected, they were already waiting outside the apartment when I arrived.
"There he is!" Ary shouted happily as she ran toward me.
"Hi, my loves," I said with a smile as I unlocked the door. "How was school today?"
"We missed you so much!" Ary replied excitedly.
I couldn't help but laugh.
Ary and Yra may be identical twins, but their personalities couldn't be more different.
Ary, with her long brown hair, was cheerful, energetic, and loved talking to everyone. Yra, whose long black hair framed her quiet face, was calm, shy, and preferred listening instead of speaking.
Sometimes I wondered how Mom came up with such unusual names for the three of us, but somehow they suited us perfectly.
"How about you, Yra?" I asked, gently ruffling her hair. "Did you have a good day too?"
She smiled softly.
"It was fine."
"I'm glad."
I opened the door wider.
"Go and take your baths first. Lunch will be ready by the time you're done."
"Okay!" Ary answered before grabbing her sister's hand and pulling her inside.
As the twins went to freshen up, I headed straight to the kitchen.
I prepared the simplest meal I could with the groceries I had bought-coconut rice with vegetables, their favorite dish.
Even though they had completely different personalities, they somehow shared the same taste in almost everything.
Watching them grow up together always made me smile.
I loved my sisters more than anything in the world.
We lived in a tiny apartment with a shared bathroom outside. It wasn't comfortable, but it was all I could afford for now.
One day, I promised myself, I'd give them a better home.
After lunch, the twins finished eating, and I cleared the table before washing the dishes.
Once everything was clean, I sat down beside them.
"I have some good news," I said, waiting for their attention.
"What is it?" Ary asked excitedly.
"I got a new job."
The room fell silent for a moment as they processed what I had just said.
"So... you're not working at the convenience store anymore?" Yra asked.
I shook my head.
"No. This time, it's an acting job."
"Acting?" Ary's eyes sparkled with excitement.
"Yes. I'll be acting in a television series."
"What kind of series?" she asked curiously.
I hesitated before answering.
"It's a Boys' Love series... a romance between two men."
Ary blinked innocently.
"So... you'll have a boyfriend?"
I couldn't help laughing.
"No, not in real life. I'll just be acting."
Yra smiled softly.
"As long as you're comfortable with it and you're happy, we'll support you."
"Exactly!" Ary exclaimed, throwing her arms around me. "You already have our approval!"
I smiled and pulled Yra into the hug as well.
Sometimes, I forgot they were younger than me.
Despite being twins, they were both incredibly mature in their own ways.
Ever since they were babies, I'd done everything I could to raise and protect them.
Our father left when I was seven years old.
The twins were only one year old at the time, so they barely remembered him.
Maybe that was for the best.
A man who abandoned his wife and children for another woman didn't deserve to be called a father.
Since that day, I've carried the responsibility of looking after this family.
It hasn't been easy, but I've never regretted it.
As long as my sisters are smiling and my mother's medical bills are paid, nothing else matters.
They're my family.
And I'd do anything to protect them.
It was already midnight. My sisters had fallen asleep, leaving the apartment quiet.
Finally, I could watch the videos Director James had sent me.
I opened the first one, expecting acting tips, but instead, it was a compilation of romantic scenes from several successful BL dramas.
"Oh..."
My ears immediately turned red.
I lowered the volume and continued watching.
The videos focused on eye contact, emotional expressions, natural skinship, and how actors built believable chemistry on screen.
By the third video, I couldn't stop thinking about it.
Why am I feeling so nervous?
I had always believed I was straight. I'd only ever had crushes on girls, although I was always too shy to talk to them.
Maybe I was just overthinking everything.
After all, acting was acting... right?
I locked my phone and lay down on my bed.
Just as I was about to close my eyes, my phone buzzed.
Unknown Number
Unknown: Hi. This is Mike, your acting partner for the upcoming series, Summer Love.
I sat up immediately.
My acting partner?
I quickly typed a reply.
Me: Hi, Mike. Nice to meet you.
A few seconds later, another message appeared.
Mike: I'm here if you need anything. And... I'm sorry about what happened today.
I frowned at the screen.
Me: Excuse me?
My heart suddenly skipped a beat.
Don't tell me...
Was he the handsome guy I bumped into outside the supermarket?
Mike
I was the guy you bumped into a few hours ago.
Me
Oh my... what a small world! But I thought you were out of the country. That's what Director James told me.
I quickly changed the contact name from Unknown Number to Mike.
Mike
😅 I lied. I actually got back today. I was trying to avoid the formal introduction. I had no idea my acting partner would be such a cute guy.
I stared at my phone.
Cute? Did he just call me cute?
Me
You're kind of weird. 😂 Why would you do that?
Mike
Nothing serious. I just don't like formal introductions. I'd rather get to know people naturally.
Me
Fair enough.
Mike
Anyway, I have to go now. I'll text you tomorrow.
A few seconds later, another message appeared.
Goodnight, cutie. 😊
I rolled my eyes before smiling without realizing it.
Me
Stop calling me weird nicknames.
Mike
Too late. I already like this one.
Me
You're impossible.
Mike
Yet you're still replying. 😏
I couldn't think of a comeback.
Shaking my head, I locked my phone and placed it beside my pillow.
He's definitely strange...
But for some reason...
I didn't hate talking to him.
Mike
Goodnight, baby. And don't forget-we're going to be playing a couple in the series, so you might as well get used to me.
Me
Seriously? You're still calling me those names?
And don't worry, I haven't forgotten.
Mike
Goodnight, sweetie.
I rolled my eyes.
Me
Goodnight... creep.
A few seconds later, another message popped up.
Mike
Ouch. That hurt my ego.
Sleep well, porcelain doll.
I couldn't stop myself from laughing.
Me
You're not backing down
Mike
Not 'all you too cute, I wanna pinch your cheek.
I stared at the screen for a few seconds before typing one last reply.
Me
Goodnight, idiot.
This time, he didn't reply.
I waited for a few minutes, but the chat remained silent.
I smiled to myself before locking my phone and placing it on the bedside table.
What a strange guy...
For someone I'd only just met, he had already managed to get under my skin.
I pulled the blanket over myself and closed my eyes.
Tomorrow would be the beginning of a completely different life.
Such a weird guy...
I smiled to myself.
Correction... a nice weird guy.
I set my alarm for five o'clock in the morning before placing my phone beside my bed.
Before going to sleep, I quietly checked on my sisters. They were sleeping peacefully, and seeing them like that always put my mind at ease.
Tomorrow, I'd visit Mom at the hospital and use the little money I'd managed to save to buy her medication.
I closed my eyes and let out a slow breath.
Please let this acting job work out.
I really need the money.
As for my acting partner...
I just hoped he wouldn't give me too much trouble.
Even though we'd only known each other for a few hours, talking to him already felt strangely easy.
He's such a weirdo...
But I didn't dislike it.
Before sleeping, I folded my hands and whispered a short prayer.
"Please watch over my family... and give me the strength to get through whatever lies ahead."
Mom always used to tell me,
"Pray when you're confused, and pray when you're happy. God listens in every season of life."
I've held onto those words ever since.
Just as I was about to fall asleep...
"Argh!"
A cockroach ran across my leg.
I jumped out of bed immediately.
"Seriously?!"
I grabbed my slipper and chased it around the room for a few minutes before finally giving up.
"One day... I'm going to live in a house without cockroaches."
Muttering to myself, I climbed back into bed.
Within minutes...
I was fast asleep.
The Next Morning - 5:00 A.M.
I woke up before my alarm even had the chance to ring. Today was different.
I quickly got out of bed and headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for the twins before school.
As I whisked the eggs, I heard a sleepy voice behind me.
"Good morning, Loud."
I turned around and smiled.
"Good morning, princess. Did you sleep well?"
Ary rubbed her eyes and nodded.
"Mm-hmm... but I'm still sleepy."
I chuckled.
"Then go wake your sister while I finish breakfast."
"Okay!"
She dragged her feet toward the bedroom, still half asleep.
A few minutes later, Yra joined us at the table.
"Morning, Loud."
"Morning, Yra."
The three of us ate breakfast together, laughing over Ary's sleepy face.
When they finished, I handed each of them a lunch box.
"I won't be home this afternoon, so I packed your lunch already. After school, go straight to Aunt May's house, okay?"
"We will!" Ary answered cheerfully.
Yra simply nodded.
"Take care of each other."
"We love you!"
"I love you both too."
I stood at the doorway, watching them walk down the street together until they disappeared from sight.
Only then did I head back inside to get ready for work.
I gave myself one last look in the mirror before grabbing my bag.
"Looking good, Loud," I muttered with a grin.
I locked the apartment door and made my way to the bus stop. The streets were already busy with people rushing to work and students heading to school. It was just another ordinary morning.
Or so I thought.
When I arrived at the convenience store, my manager was already waiting for me with his usual serious expression.
"You're five minutes early," he said.
"I know. I didn't want to be late."
He nodded. "Good. Since you're leaving soon, make sure you train the new employee properly."
"Yes, sir."
The morning passed quickly as I arranged shelves, attended to customers, and cleaned the store. Before I knew it, it was almost lunchtime.
Just as I was about to take my break, my phone buzzed.
Mike
Good afternoon, porcelain doll. Have you eaten yet?
I couldn't help rolling my eyes.
Me
It's barely noon and you're already being annoying.
A reply came almost instantly.
Mike
So you admit you've been thinking about me.
I let out a quiet laugh.
Me
In your dreams.
Mike
Maybe. But I'll make those dreams come true someday.
I shook my head and slipped my phone back into my pocket.
"Such a shameless guy," I mumbled.
"Talking to your boyfriend already?" my manager teased as he walked past.
My face immediately turned red.
"W-What? No! He's just... someone I know."
The manager chuckled before walking away.
I sighed.
Why does everyone keep getting the wrong idea?
Little did I know...
This was only the beginning of the chaos Mike was about to bring into my peaceful life.
The rest of the day passed by quickly. Customers came and went, and before I knew it, the clock struck six.
"Alright, everyone," my manager called out. "We're closing for the day."
We immediately began our closing routine. I restocked the shelves, swept the floor, and helped count the day's sales before locking the display cabinets.
Nasa let out a tired sigh as she stretched.
"My feet are officially dead."
I laughed.
"You always say that."
"Because it's true!" she pouted. "One day this job is going to finish me."
"You'll survive."
She nudged my shoulder playfully.
"So... when are you resigning?"
I smiled.
"Soon. I have to finish a few things first."
She looked at me curiously.
"Is it because of that acting job you told me about?"
I nodded.
"Yeah. Training starts soon."
"I'm really happy for you, Loud," she said with a warm smile. "You deserve something better."
"Thank you."
After changing out of my work apron, I picked up my bag.
"See you tomorrow!"
"Take care!" everyone replied.
I stepped outside the supermarket and breathed in the cool evening air.
My next stop...
The hospital.
Mom had been waiting for me all day, and I couldn't visit her empty-handed.
I tightened my grip on the small paper bag containing her medication and favorite fruit before hailing a bus.
I silently prayed she was having a good day.
I got off the bus and stood in front of the hospital. The familiar smell of antiseptic filled the air as soon as I stepped inside.
Before going to Mom's ward, I stopped by a small fruit stand outside the hospital.
I counted the money in my wallet.
It wasn't much, but I bought two apples and a carton of her favorite fruit juice.
"She'll scold me for spending money again," I muttered with a smile.
I took a deep breath before pushing open the ward door.
"Mom?"
She slowly turned her head toward me, and the moment she saw me, a warm smile spread across her face.
"Loud... you're here."
"Of course I am. Did you think I'd skip visiting my favorite person?"
She chuckled softly.
"I know you're busy."
I pulled a chair beside her bed and handed her the fruit.
"I brought these for you."
"You shouldn't have wasted your money on me."
"It's not a waste. As long as it makes you smile, it's worth it."
Her eyes became watery, but she quickly blinked the tears away.
"How are the girls?" she asked.
"They're doing well. Ary is still as loud as ever, and Yra keeps her in check."
Mom laughed quietly.
"Those two..."
"And guess what?" I continued with a grin.
"I got the acting job."
Her eyes widened in surprise.
"You did?"
I nodded proudly.
"I passed the audition."
She reached for my hand and squeezed it gently.
"I knew you could do it."
"I'll work hard, Mom. I'll earn enough money for your treatment, and one day we'll all live together in a better house."
She smiled, but there was sadness hidden behind it.
"My son... don't work too hard just because of me."
"I have to."
"No," she said softly. "I want you to chase your dream too. Promise me you'll smile more and worry less."
I forced a smile.
"I promise."
Just then, a nurse entered the room.
"Visiting hours will end in ten minutes."
I nodded politely.
After chatting with Mom a little longer, I hugged her gently before standing up.
"I'll come back tomorrow."
"I'll be waiting."
As I walked out of the room, I took one last look at her.
Please... stay strong.
I'm going to save you.
I quietly closed the door behind me, unaware that someone had been watching me from the end of the hallway.
I quietly closed the door behind me and let out a long sigh.
Seeing Mom smile always gave me hope, but leaving her behind in that hospital bed never got any easier.
I shoved my hands into my pockets and slowly walked toward the hospital exit.
Just as I reached the elevator, the doors slid open.
A tall man wearing a black hoodie, a face mask, and a cap stepped out.
He looked oddly familiar.
I frowned.
No... it couldn't be.
Before I could think any further, he bumped into my shoulder.
"I'm sorry," he said without looking up.
"It's fine," I replied.
He froze.
"...Loud?"
My eyes widened.
"Mike?"
He slowly pulled down his mask, revealing the same handsome face I'd seen at the supermarket.
"What are you doing here?" we asked at the same time.
We both laughed awkwardly.
"I came to visit someone," Mike answered first.
"So did I."
There was a brief silence.
He glanced toward the ward I'd just left.
"Family?"
I nodded.
"My mom."
His playful expression disappeared.
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay," I replied with a faint smile. "She's fighting hard."
He looked at me for a moment before speaking.
"Your mom is lucky."
"Huh?"
"She has someone who loves her enough to show up every day."
I looked away, trying to hide the emotion in my eyes.
"I just don't want her to feel alone."
Mike smiled gently.
"She won't... not with a son like you."
For the first time since we'd met, he wasn't teasing me.
He was sincere.
Somehow...
That made my heart beat a little faster.
"Come on," he said, breaking the silence. "I'll walk you to the bus stop."
"You don't have to."
"I know."
He grinned.
"But I'm going to anyway."
I sighed.
"You're really stubborn."
"And you're already getting used to me."
I rolled my eyes, unable to stop the smile creeping onto my face.
Maybe...
Having him around wouldn't be so bad after all.
Mike and I left the hospital together.
The evening breeze was cool, and the streets were slowly becoming quieter as people made their way home after work.
For the first few minutes, neither of us spoke.
The silence wasn't awkward.
It was... surprisingly comfortable.
"So," Mike finally said, shoving his hands into his pockets, "how's your mom?"
I smiled faintly.
"She's a fighter. The doctors say her condition is stable for now."
"I'm glad to hear that."
"What about you?" I asked. "Who were you visiting?"
"My grandmother."
I looked at him in surprise.
"Is she okay?"
He nodded.
"She's getting better. She always complains that I don't visit often enough."
I laughed.
"Sounds like every grandmother."
He chuckled.
"You're right."
We continued walking side by side.
"So..." Mike said, glancing at me. "What made you accept the acting job?"
I looked down at the pavement.
"My family."
"My mom's treatment is expensive, and my sisters are still in school. I need the money."
Mike stayed quiet for a moment.
Then he smiled gently.
"You're a good son."
I scratched the back of my neck, feeling embarrassed.
"I'm just doing what anyone in my position would do."
"No," he said. "Not everyone would."
His words stayed with me.
Before I realized it, we had reached my apartment building.
"This is where I live," I said.
Mike looked around at the small neighborhood before turning back to me.
"It's nice."
I laughed.
"You're lying."
He grinned.
"Okay... it's small."
I playfully rolled my eyes.
"I knew it."
He took a step back.
"Well, I'd better head home."
"Thanks for walking me."
"It was my pleasure."
There was a brief silence.
"See you soon, partner."
"See you," I replied with a smile.
Mike raised his hand in a small wave before walking away.
I stood there for a few seconds, watching him disappear down the street.
He's... not as strange as I thought.
A smile crept onto my face before I realized it.
Shaking my head, I unlocked the apartment door and stepped inside.
Tomorrow...
