Chapter 1
The clock was ticking non-stop.The gentle aroma of pancakes and coffee filling the house made its way to her.She inhaled the sweet scent of the breakfast her mother had prepared for her hovering over her for about ten minutes now.
It was one of her mother's habits to look at her face affectionately for a few minutes in the morning.
Finally,she moved.
"Good morning, pearl"Julia Hall said with her warm smile.
"Good morning "She kissed her cheek.
"Okay get up and shower I am setting the table "Julia said while making her way towards kitchen.
Evelyn smiled getting up to start a new day after summer vacations.
Little did she know that after this day her life was gonna take a 180 degree turn.
Evelyn Hall.Your typical high school girl.Introvert but extrovert with her family (mother) and friend (Rebecca).
Her mother is a single parent who has raised her alone after the separation of her parents. But she was more than happy with her mother because Julia never let her feel the absence of her father.
Evelyn's one and only friend Rebecca was the definition of a true friend. She was with her since elementary school and they were more like childhood besties.
After having her breakfast, she was heading towards the bus stop, actually running.Because as usual, she was late. She often used to think that she should take part in marathon. The other students in the bus were not even laughing at her right now cause they were so used to this 'marathon' of her by now.She was in 11th grade right now but still so naive and clumsy.
Anyways, she grabbed the bus pole and made an entry in the bus.Her breathing was ragged. No one offered her water. They never did.She was expecting this indifference anyways.
But today someone actually offered her a bottle of water. She wiped her sweat and looked up.There was a boy.Maybe he was new cause she didn't recognized him.He was asking her if she was alright. And she was dumbfounded. She couldn't bring herself to answer him or look away from his face. This act of kindness showed by a stranger brought tears in her eyes.
He cleared his throat,a visual representation of annoyance. She was beyond embarrassed after realising her clumsiness. She grabbed the bottle from his hand without making a slightest contact with his fingers and finally moved her gaze away from his face.Eveyone was gawking at her as she had never looked at anyone with this intense gaze. She couldn't even make an eye contact with her class mates for this long let alone a total stranger.
The bus stopped.Everyone started moving. She looked at him descending the bus.She was the last one to leave.
At school, she couldn't bring herself to tell about her condition even to Rebecca. She was more than intrigued that what was it?
Is it just his kindness or is there any other reason that since morning She couldn't think of anything else but Adrian reed.Yes,that was his name.
Adrian Reed. She had listened in to the conversation of two girls drooling over him.He was a transfer student.Though, transfer in senior year didn't make any sense. But she wasn't even in her right senses right now.
It was lunch break and she was hoping that she could see him for even a minute. But he wasn't there. She sighed.
Rebecca couldn't tolerate anymore and at last she bursted.
"What the hell is your problem, girl?"
Evelyn flinched. She wasn't expecting this much anger.Though, Rebecca was her best friend and there was not a single secret between them but she couldn't bring herself to tell her about Adrian right now.The reason? Still unknown.
She somehow convinced Rebecca that she was having a headache and she will talk to her after taking her meds.Although, wasn't satisfied with her response but she still let her go.
At evening, she was laying in her bed still thinking about HIM.She was feeling like Adrian had cast a spell on her.She had never ever had even a crush on anyone.Rebecca had dated almost six guys and was still dating Caleb nowadays. But Evelyn was more of a shy type. She never approached a guy and guys never approached her.She was pretty with big doe eyes ,blonde hair and a button nose but boys usually maintained a distance from her because of her lack of response and introverted personality. She was not the type to start a conversation or trust anyone after a few meetings. Let's just say that she had trust issues because of her father.
Her father left her and her mother when she was five.True that Julia embraced in her in her warmth but she still couldn't help but feel an uninvited pain and bitterness whenever she had an encounter with men.So this made her an "outcast"in her school and even in the neighborhood.
To be continued......
