A family in Birmingham, United Kingdom goes through an apocalypse of infected people. In the beginning, all people find this out in early news and so considering that people leave as soon as possible. The family aren't very TV people so the only reason the television was on was to entertain the littles. After many left, with the family the littles were doing their own thing. The channel auto changed because of the disaster that fell down, mainly the channels were all cut out so the TVs channel would direct itself to the news channel. Grace doesn't fully catch on and is easily distracted at times; this is leading to Malcolm trying to get her attention in the first few chapters. A lot of the time Grace and Malcolm are busy; this leaves their fourteen year old son William to watch his siblings, mainly why the littles behave; because Grace can get overstimulated a lot, doing so she pushes them back in order to calm down and relax, on the other hand; Malcolm isn't a fan of children much, it was more of a want from Grace, he tries to remain somewhat if not, fully away from them. Grace does love Malcolm however her wanting of children before affected him as he didn't want them, it was just to please her, after Will was born, they both got more busy and the more children they had, the more busy they were; at some point Malcolm really did love Grace, but the situation was far different as life went on.
Later on in chapter three, Grace wasn't in the mood to talk, inciting she didn't want to fight, fore they had fought before many, many times, Malcolm is the type of person to start the fight either way whether the other person is opposed to it or not. When Grace went to check on the littles, Rei, her four-year-old daughter was infected with a cut, probably a minor unnoticed accident from school; that leads to the question, how did this tragedy appear to happen? It isn't said for sure; however, possibly a food had been contaminated and rotted and an animal fed on the food, leading the animal to be infected to bite a human. Chapter four, Rei was violent due to the disease, Grace would've stopped Rei fairly quick if it wasn't the face of her daughter; someone she loved with her full heart. Malcolm heard Grace scream and came running from another room, possibly the lounge. When Malcolm grabbed Rei, she was in full reach to bite and infect him, which she did. As an instinct Malcolm grabbed the nearest thing to fight back which murdered his daughter. The shock of this all hit Grace hard, leading her to have gone "mental" as Malcolm said. In the book Grace disappears with Rei, the book will not say however Grace leaves to another place with Rei to mourn the loss of her daughter, Grace probably will end up dead by the infection or by her own hand, the book will not say. Now Malcolm leaves Grace and Rei to go to his room after seeing she will not listen to him at all. Malcolm is infected after the attack towards Grace, that and considering the lack of his medication with both kill him either way, whether the infection grows to turn him or if he wasn't at all infected at all, he would still die due to his medical issue, the medication he needed was no more of his reach, he would die. Considering the both; Malcolm leaves himself to his room to hang, instead of leaving himself there for the infection to grow and leading him to attack the other, he chooses to die by his own hand. After everything goes quiet William leaves his room to check up on everything, he checks every room for threats such as his father who he saw was infected. William already knew they wouldn't survive there on their own so he started to pack. His reaction to his fathers body hanging was nothing because that stuff didn't exactly bother him; he just thought of other things that held his attention for hours. Asher in the story doesn't have many reactions to much mainly because his mind blocks things out as a brain response; when something goes horribly and can affect him deeply as examples; memory. His brain blocks it out to protect him. In the book it doesn't really hit him hard; it doesn't occur to him everything's gone to shit and nothing will ever be the same again but that's something for the next book. Chapter six the "thing"they see is an infected human, it isn't described considering it's not a scary part of the book. It will be described when an attack hits them which may never happen in the book until the second book which'll be due next year. In chapter eight the place they're going to is another city in England which is a bit far from them so they have to walk hours to get there. The lady named Carrie who they meet finds them exploring the place and looking for supplies on a solo run, a solo run in their rules is where just one person is sent out to collect whatever they can find, this run can last for two days. If the person isn't back in two days the people assume the person on the run is dead. When Will is surprised, it's not controversial, he's just genuinely surprised because he didn't think many others were out there, and especially not near them. Carrie could already tell Will and his siblings were far from a threat. They couldn't possibly live with themselves after killing one, she thought. After knowing they were no threat, Carrie decided to bring them back to her camp as help and whatnot, she herself couldn't possibly leave children out in the twisted infected world to die. She might as well set herself off life than to do that. Carrie's brother Carter is mute, not by an event that's stuck with him, but instead, he was born mute. Shane; who is in charge of everything, is a married man married to Andrea, his personality in the book is cheerful and sweet, he tries to look to the bright and better side of the shitty event that's happened.
Shane didn't exactly have a good childhood in the book, which he's excited to have children of his own to prove he's not like his family, his intent is to give his children what he never had; him and Andrea are a perfect match, they never have lovers spat so they've agreed to be as cheerful as possible and to talk about everything they find wrong between them.
Chapter ten is mainly to finish the book and is directed to Leslie's second birthday. Will's plan is to do what his mum's plan was. To give them rooms of their wishing, if they wanted a particular design, it would've been given. That is where the book ends. When their day ends. There will be another book to continue, The Ones Who Remain; It is being worked on; however, it will not be released until New Years Eve/The beginning of 2027. When the book is released, it'll be multiple years ahead in the book meaning William will be nineteen Carrie will be 18, Asher will be around twelve or thirteen considering his birthday is not yet released in the book, Carter will be a year younger than Asher. Leslie will be six. Sincere apologies if there are any errors with the actings of the characters, they are based off of random personalities people are known to have.

En el libro, realmente no le impacta mucho; no se da cuenta de que todo se ha ido al traste y que nada volverá a ser lo mismo, pero eso es algo para el próximo libro. En el capítulo seis, la "cosa" que ven es un humano infectado, no se describe considerando que no es una parte aterradora del libro. Se describirá cuando un ataque los golpee, lo que puede que nunca ocurra en el libro hasta el segundo libro, que se publicará el próximo año. En el capítulo ocho, el lugar al que se dirigen es otra ciudad en Inglaterra, que está un poco lejos, por lo que tienen que caminar horas para llegar. La señora llamada Carrie, a quien ellos conocen, los encuentra explorando el lugar y buscando provisiones en una misión en solitario; una misión en solitario según sus reglas es cuando solo una persona es enviada a recoger lo que pueda encontrar, esta misión puede durar dos días. Si la persona no regresa en dos días, la gente asume que la persona en la misión está muerta. Shane, quien está a cargo de todo, es un hombre casado con Andrea. Su personalidad en el libro es alegre y dulce; él trata de mirar el lado brillante y mejor del horrible evento que ha ocurrido. Shane no tuvo exactamente una buena infancia en el libro, y está emocionado de tener hijos propios para demostrar que no es como su familia; su intención es dar a sus hijos lo que él nunca tuvo. Él y Andrea son una pareja perfecta, nunca tienen disputas amorosas, por lo que han acordado ser lo más alegres posible y hablar de todo lo que encuentren mal entre ellos.
El capítulo diez es principalmente para terminar el libro y está dirigido al segundo cumpleaños de Leslie. El plan de Will es hacer lo que el plan de su mamá era. Darles habitaciones según sus deseos; si querían un diseño en particular, se les habría dado. Ahí es donde termina el libro. Cuando termine su día.
