Chapter 1
Life has never been easy, those who think it might be were severely mistaken. Either that or they had lived a very sheltered life. I was no exception to this, life sucked. However, school made the whole ordeal about ten times as bad as it was originally. Some people, weird people, enjoyed school. Enjoyed waking up at ungodly hours in the morning and seemingly enjoyed being forced to learn unnecessary things, such as PE.
I, personally, hated everything to do for school. Of course, education is important, and I wouldn’t want to live my life without having any education – otherwise I wouldn’t be able to get a job and would be living off benefits my entire life. But, it was mandatory to spend eighteen years in education (or an apprenticeship), well in England at least. Sometimes I wish it wasn’t mandatory, the better some people left school the better.
Highschool was officially hell for teenagers. Having to learn unnecessary things that we will never use in future life is something I found entirely pointless. Not to mention, the fact that people loved to belittle others at any possibility they get; simply because they’re bored or insecure.
I found that the worst part of high school was the time of day I had to wake up at. Six-thirty am. I was always disorientated whenever I woke up and the feeling didn’t leave until midday, hours after I woke up. However, if I were to wake up half an hour later I would be perfectly fine throughout the day. Fucking brain…
Speaking of early morning wakeups…
A blaring alarm sounded from my bedside table, which, unfortunately for me, was right by my ear. Rolling over, a loud groan escaped my lips as light, which seeped from a crack from my curtains, shone directly over my eyes. Instinctively, my eyes screwed shut and my hand flew to shield my eyes. A loud yell sounded from downstairs, signalling that I needed to ‘get my lazy ass out of bed’, my mother’s words not my own.
Despite being a weekday – I wouldn’t be attending school today. Why? Because my mother had acquired a new job in a completely different country. And we were leaving. Today.
Our flight was in seven hours and we had to be there three hours early, which left me four hours to get ready and make sure all my belongings were ready to be shipped.
Dragging myself out of bed, I let myself ponder on the potential outcomes that could happen over in America. Maybe I could become ‘popular’, a very unlikely possibility. Or maybe I would do what I did best and become ‘invisible’ – don’t draw attention to myself and maybe make only a few friends; this is probably what I’ll do.
Going to a cardboard box which was situated by the end of my bed, I collected the pile of clothes from on top of it. The clothes consisted of a white off the shoulder top. The top of the shirt was slightly pleated and crinkled and the ends of the sleeves reached midway up the forearms with it tied into a bow on either side. The shirt itself was cropped, reviling lower stomach along with the navel. There was also a pair of high-waisted jeans that covered the lower stomach, yet the navel between the shirt and the jeans was still visible. The jeans reached just above the ankle and was bunched up slightly when worn, showing that I was too short for the jeans. There were also two cuts by the knees, reviling pale skin. The top of the jeans had a gold button and zipper, which matched the logo on the pair of white puma shoes which were also in the pile. In the pile were also matching sets of underwear and a pair of white trainer socks.
After pulling those clothes on and making sure I had sprayed myself with several lays of perfume – a girls got to smell good. Well, in my opinion anyways.
Once finished I grabbed my hoodie from the bedframe. It was a plain black hoodie with white drawstrings. I pulled it on, not zipping the front on as to ruin the effect of my outfit. I quickly grabbed my overnight back and slung it over my shoulder before grabbing the box and walking downstairs with it in my arms. This was my last box and as we were selling the house as furnished so my bed and such was going to be left here.
I send a small smile towards my mother who was putting a few last things in some boxes. She gestured to leave the box by the door and I did. Straightening up, I headed towards my mum and helped her pack the few remaining things. “You ready?” My mother asked as she placed a kiss to my temple. I nodded and shot her a grin. “Great! Your sisters waiting outside now, and the delivery men are here so we just need to get these boxes to them.”
After making sure everything we needed was packed, we took the last few remaining boxes to the truck outside. I looked back at the house as my mother called for a taxi, reminiscing about my past times in the house I had grown up in. The house was a slightly modern twist of a Victorian style house. There were three windows on the front side of the house, one above the door that was for the bathroom and two to the right of the door which jutted out slightly, making it look like a tower. The roof formed a triangle above this pillar like structure, giving it a Victorian style look. The door was a chestnut oak which contrasted the red bricks of the house. In front of the house was a grey pebbled driveway which was empty of a car as we had sold it. We were just going to buy a new car over in America.
Soon enough the delivery men left, and the new house owners arrived, at the same time as our taxi. My mum handed the keys over to them as they had already payed for it before my mum, my sister and I got into the taxi and headed to the airport.
It had been a few hours on the plane now and I had seen some lovely sights. The view of the ocean is incredible. Not to mention spotting the dolphins leaping in and out of the ocean reminded me of a ‘Where’s Wally’ book as it was always a thrill spotting them. The only thing I hated about the light was the turbulence, and the change in air pressure kept causing my ears to pop.
The plane had recently landed, and I was waiting with my family for my luggage to come through and after spotting it, quickly grasped onto the handle and pulled it off the carousel, my family doing the same as they spotted theirs too.
A few minutes later we were out of the building and in a taxi, heading towards my new home and a new life…
It had been a few days since I had moved. I had only just finished unpacking my belongings, and, on Monday, I was due to attend my new school.
I loved my new house, it was quite a bit larger than my old one, being a detached house instead. The house was a plain brick with brown tiles. The windows and patio styled doors had white rims, yet the windows were at different heights to compensate for specific rooms. There was trellis’ along the front of the house which supported some beautiful plants. In front of the house was a driveway that lead to two garages, one for the car and the other for storage space. In front of the driveway was a medium sized patch of grass, perfectly trimmed by the previous owners, which was bordered by multiple varied species of flowers – none of which I knew the name of.
Around the back of the house was also another garden, along with a small shed. Hedges lined both gardens, high enough so that nobody would be able to look over, but low enough as to not block out the sun.
The gardens were probably my favourite part of the house.
I also loved my room, which I had redecorated. Originally, the walls were painted a sickly yellow and the carpet was a bright pink. The second I saw it, I hated it. As did my mother, and that was why I could redecorate. After a quick trip to a local DIY store, I had purchased everything I needed to make my room like aesthetically pleasing. Those items included a couple of white paint cans, to make it look more modern and sleek. We also hired some people to come and remove the ugly carpet, instead replacing it with new floorboards. Of course, we had also bought furniture, plus I had spotted some adorable fairy lights that I just had to buy. It was a complete transformation and I was so pleased with it.
After standing in the doorway to my room and analysing its contents for a few seconds, a smile stretched onto my face. Yes. I was definitely going to enjoy it here.
