Summary

I thought I knew what it meant to be a singer. The smoky clubs. The roaring crowds. The late nights with my band, Starlight Sky, and the strange little thrill of hearing my own voice echo through a room full of strangers. We were living in the 1950s, when everything was supposed to be polished, proper, and perfect. But my dreams were never any of those things. Every night, I find myself wandering through places that shouldn't exist—black forests beneath blood-red moons, crooked churches with no doors, endless staircases, and cities where the shadows move when nobody is looking. Sometimes I see things watching me from the darkness. Sometimes they whisper my name. And lately, I've started seeing them while I'm awake. At first, I blamed exhaustion. Then the nightmares began following me onto the stage. A horned figure standing behind the curtains. A pale face staring through a club window. Hands appearing in the mirrors. And sometimes, when the music reaches its loudest, the whole world disappears. One moment I'm singing beneath the stage lights. The next, I'm somewhere else. Somewhere hot, dark, and impossibly vast. Hell. Then, without warning, I'm back. No one else remembers it happening. No one believes me. Now my dreams are becoming harder to distinguish from realityand the things haunting me seem to know something I don't. Something about me.

Chapter 1

I walk through a seemingly endless field, the colors around me muted, gray. My hair and clothes blow in a breeze that's not there. As I walk, I notice small shadows, flitting in and out of my peripheral vision, moving quickly through the grass.

Up ahead a building slowly comes into view. A large, black castle. More like an abbey, or monastery. There's intricate stone work, carvings, and statues. I can't quite make out what they depict.

I squint, leaning forward, afraid to get closer. Something about this place.........It's off. But somehow it calls to me too........

I jump as the clock strikes 6:00. A red light starts seeping out of the clock tower, appearing under the front doors as well. The doors burst open and standing in the doorway-

Standing in the doorway-

Is-

IS-

I sit up in bed, sweat soaking the sheets, dripping from my skin. My heart beats erratically, my breathing frantic. I put a hand to my chest, trying to slow my breathing, calm myself.

Roscoe shifts slightly in bed next to me, but doesn't wake. Van sleeps soundly next to him, and Wayne and Harry sleep on the pull-out couch a few feet away.

I get out of bed, walking into the small kitchenette, pouring myself some water. I lean against the counter, drinking fast. I swipe a hand across my forehead.

~third time this week. What has gotten INTO me?~

I sigh, closing my eyes and weariness. The guys are going to notice if this doesn't stop soon.

Suddenly I get a flash of my mostly forgotten dream. A large, winged figure in the door frame of a black building.

~Satan.~

How do I know?

~Because I've seen him before.~

My Blacksmith Savior
