โ™ง Prologue

I was never supposed to chase my stalker.

People were supposed to run from the person who followed them.

They were supposed to lock their doors, close their curtains, call the police, and pray the footsteps outside their window belonged to someone else.

I did none of those things.

Instead, I was running through the rain after him.

My shoes slapped against the wet pavement as I ran down the empty street, one hand holding my dress up slightly so I wouldn't trip, the other gripping my phone so tightly that my fingers hurt.

Cold rain soaked through my clothes.

My hair stuck to my face.

My lungs were burning.

And somehow, none of that mattered.

Because I could see him.

He was walking about twenty metres ahead of me.

Black coat.

Dark clothes.

His head slightly lowered against the rain.

He wasn't running.

That was the worst part. He walked as if he knew I was behind him. As if he wanted me to follow.

"Hey!"

My voice disappeared beneath the sound of the rain.

He kept walking.

I ran faster.

"HEY!"

This time, he stopped.

My heart nearly stopped with him. For a second, he simply stood there with his back toward me.

The street was almost empty.

A few cars passed at the far end of the road, their headlights cutting through the rain before disappearing again.

The man slowly turned his head.

I couldn't see his face. His hood was pulled low but I knew.

It was him.

The same man.

The same black coat.

The same way of standing that I had seen from my bedroom window.

The same silhouette that had appeared across the street.

The same shadow that had disappeared every time I tried to get closer.

My stalker.

I had finally found him.

Or maybe...

He had finally allowed me to find him.

He turned and continued walking.

"Oh, you're not getting away this time."

I started running again. My legs were already tired, but adrenaline pushed me forward. He turned into a narrow street between two old buildings.

I followed.

The moment I entered the alley, the sounds of the city became quieter.

I slowed down.

My heartbeat was suddenly louder than everything else.

"Hello?" I took another step. "Where are you?"

Silence.

I looked left. Nothing.

Right. Nothing.

He was gone. Again.

I let out a frustrated breath.

"You've got to be kidding me."

I pushed my wet hair away from my face.

Three months.

Three months of this.

Three months of waking up to strange messages.

Three months of finding things outside my apartment that I had never left there.

A flower placed on my windowsill.

A photograph of me walking home.

A note telling me not to take a certain road.

A warning about a man I had never even met.

And every time I thought I was close...

He disappeared, but tonight was different. Tonight, I had seen him.

I was still staring at the empty alley when my phone vibrated.

I froze. Slowly, I looked down.

Unknown Number.

I already knew who it was. I opened the message.

ยซYou really shouldn't follow strangers into dark alleys, Raven.ยป

I stared at the screen. Then I typed.

ใ€Š Then stop following me. ใ€‹

I stared at the message before pressing send.

Delivered.

I waited.

Five seconds.

Ten.

Twenty.

Then the three little dots appeared. He was typing. My heart began beating faster. The dots disappeared. Then appeared again. Finally, a message arrived.

ยซMake me.ยป

I stared at those two words. A strange feeling moved through me.

Fear.

Anger.

And something I absolutely refused to name.

I looked around the alley.

"Where are you?"

No answer.

I turned slowly, searching the rooftops and windows.

Nothing.

Then I saw movement near the building across from me. My breath caught.

"There you are."

I didn't think.

I ran.

I didn't care that every sensible part of my brain was screaming at me to go home.

I didn't care that this was exactly what a person with common sense was not supposed to do.

I wanted answers.

I wanted his face.

I wanted to know why he had chosen me.

Most of all...

I wanted to know why a part of me had started looking forward to his messages.

I reached the corner, he was there. Just standing beneath the broken streetlight.

I stopped.

He looked at me. Even from that distance, I could feel his eyes on mine.

Then he turned. I ran after him.

"WAIT!"

He disappeared around another corner. I followed and suddenly-A hand grabbed my wrist, I gasped. Before I could scream, I was pulled backward.

My back hit the cold brick wall.

His body blocked the light.

My heart slammed against my ribs.

I tried to move. His hand tightened around my wrist.

Not enough to hurt.

Just enough to stop me.

For the first time, he was close.

I couldn't see his entire face. The shadows hid most of it, but I could see his eyes.

Watching me.

"You're my stalker."

His head tilted slightly. Then came the quietest reply.

"That's what you think?"

My stomach twisted. "What else am I supposed to think?"

He looked at me for a long moment. Then his grip slowly loosened. I should have stepped away.

Instead, I stayed.

"Why me? Why are you watching me?Why do you keep leaving those messages?"

His eyes changed just for a second.

Something passed through them. Something I couldn't understand. Then he stepped away.

I reached for his sleeve. My fingers barely caught the fabric.

"Wait!"

He stopped. His back was still toward me.

I swallowed.

"Who are you?"

The rain fell between us. For a moment, I thought he wasn't going to answer. Then he looked over his shoulder.

ยซ"Because you're not the one I'm watching."ยป

I stared at him. "What? Then who are you watching?"

He turned away.

"Wait!"

But he was already walking. I ran after him and he disappeared into the darkness.

Just like he always did.

I stood there alone, soaked from head to toe, staring at the empty street.

My phone vibrated again.

Another message.

I opened it.

ยซGo home, Raven.ยป

I looked around. Nobody. Another vibration.

ยซAnd don't trust the man who's going to knock on your door tomorrow.ยป

My blood ran cold.

Because I knew exactly who was going to knock on my door tomorrow.

And suddenly...

I wasn't sure if I had been chasing my stalker. Or if my stalker had been chasing someone else.

AUTHOR'S NOTE ๐Ÿ–ค

I'm keeping my mouth shut about who he is... you'll have to catch him yourself. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'll leave the clues; you bring the theories, the suspicion, and your detective skills.

Just like Raven, you'll never know who's watching until she finds him.

Choose your suspect wisely-because he could be anyone from BTS.

So tell me, darling... can you catch him before you fall for him? ๐ŸŒš๐Ÿ–ค

I really liked the suspense in this prologue especially the mystery around the stalker and why he keeps watching Raven. That final warning about the man at her door tomorrow was such a great hook and definitely made me curious about what happens next
