EVERDEAN
Prologue
Some stories begin with love. Others begin with tragedy. Mine began with neither.
If someone had told me months ago that I would end up caught in the middle of an ancient war between light and darkness while desperately trying not to fall for two emotionally unstable and ridiculously handsome boys… I wouldn’t have believed them. And, honestly, I probably would have laughed in their face. I might even have cried. But I definitely would have laughed.
Because the truth was, my biggest concern used to be surviving in my own home. Surviving Nicole and my father’s absence. Surviving that constant feeling of never belonging anywhere.
Everdean was supposed to be a fresh start. An opportunity. An escape. A refuge.
Instead, it became a nightmare elegantly wrapped in gothic walls, silent corridors, and secrets capable of destroying the world.
My world.
I quickly discovered that nothing about that school was normal. Not the students. Not the teachers. And definitely not Kael.
Kael looked like he had stepped straight out of some dangerous mistake made by the universe, almost as if the universe itself knew he was never supposed to exist.
Cold.
Dark.
Infuriatingly handsome.
He was the kind of boy who looked at you as though he already knew exactly how your story would end. And that was equal parts terrifying and… exhilarating.
Which, honestly, should have been enough to make me run.
It should have.
But it wasn’t.
And then there was Zayn.
Zayn was chaos in human form. Provocative smiles, golden eyes, and a terrifying talent for turning any conversation into either a threat or a tease.
Sometimes both at the same time.
Which should probably be illegal.
And right in the middle of all of it was me…
Amary Drake.
The girl who had spent her entire life feeling invisible, only to discover that there were actually plenty of people waiting for me .
Dangerous people.
Creatures that shouldn’t exist.
Dangerous destinies.
Because some love stories don’t begin with flowers.
They begin with secrets.
With ancient wars hidden inside a school that looked more like a fortress.
And the worst part?
Some people don’t enter your life to save you.
They enter it to destroy everything you thought you knew.
And somehow…
you love them anyway.
