The King's Little Secret

Summary

The rain was falling heavily. Nandini stood in the middle of the empty road, completely drenched. Her hands were trembling. A black car had stopped only a few feet away from her. The driver's door opened. Manik stepped out. Black shirt. Black trousers. A gun tucked beneath his jacket. His face was expressionless. But the moment his eyes landed on Nandini, something changed. "Nandini?" She looked at him. "Manik..." He immediately walked toward her. "What the hell are you doing here?" "I..." Her voice broke. "I was scared." Manik stopped. For the first time in years, fear appeared in his eyes. "Who did this?" Nandini shook her head. "I don't know." Manik looked around. His men were already searching the surrounding area. Then he noticed the blood on Nandini's hand. His jaw tightened. "You're hurt." "It's not mine." Manik froze. "What?" She slowly pointed toward the abandoned warehouse behind her. "There was someone inside." Manik's expression became terrifyingly cold. "Did you see his face?" Nandini nodded. "I saw him." "Who?" She looked directly into Manik's eyes. And whispered, "Your enemy." For several seconds, Manik said nothing. Then he pulled her behind him. "Stay here." "But Manik-" "Nandini." His voice was no longer gentle. It was the voice of the mafia king. "Don't move." He walked toward the warehouse. Nandini watched him disappear.

Never show weakness.

His stepmother, Meera Malhotra, never treated him like her son.

Manik hates her because, after his father's death, he discovered that Meera had secretly tried to take control of his father's business and had manipulated his father against him.

Even worse, years ago Manik overheard Meera telling someone that she wished Manik had died instead of his father.

Manik never forgot those words

He has never called her "Mother."

And she definitely doesn't know that the dangerous man she meets will eventually become the person she trusts the most.

ABHIMANYU MURTHY -
