Prisoner of the Logic of Men

Living in a wealthy family had never brought him any real comfort.

His father, the manager of the family business, had never been gentle with him.

Behind the appearance of a wealthy and respectable family, however, hid a very different reality.

This is the story of Gemy Foster...

From his earliest memories, Gemy could remember only one person who had truly shown him love: his mother, Charlene Foster.

But things were different with his father, Edward Foster.

Edward saw Gemy only as a strong man who would one day be capable of taking over the family business and carrying on his father's legacy.

To him, his son had to be strong.

He was never supposed to show weakness.

But that did not justify his behavior.

Edward was not only harsh with Gemy.

He was also harsh with his wife, Charlene.

Over the years, the tension between them continued to grow until it eventually led to their divorce.

The day Charlene decided to leave, Gemy refused to stay with his father.

Taking advantage of Edward's absence, he left with his mother, determined to escape the life he had been forced to endure.

For Gemy, this might finally have been a chance to begin a new life.

But when Edward returned home and discovered that they had left, he became furious.

He immediately began searching for them.

After extensive searches and numerous efforts, he eventually found them.

When he confronted Charlene, she tried to stop him.

But there was nothing she could do to prevent Edward from taking Gemy back.

For the young boy, it was a terrible shock.

He had barely escaped the world in which he had grown up—a world he considered a prison.

And now, he was being dragged back into it.

Gemy watched helplessly as his mother was left behind.

He wanted to stay with her.

He wanted to ask her not to let him go.

But no words came out.

At that moment, Gemy understood something:

He had never truly escaped.

The world he had tried to leave had caught up with him.

That life now seemed endless, as if he would never be able to escape it.

His father's strict rules would control every part of his daily life.

Gemy constantly had to be careful about what he did, what he said, and even how he behaved.

One evening, while alone in his room, he whispered:

— I would give anything to escape this hell...

But he had no idea where that thought would eventually lead him.

After taking Gemy back, Edward made a drastic decision.

He transferred him to another school so that his mother would have a harder time finding him.

He even confiscated his phone.

Gemy became completely isolated.

He had lost his mother.

He had lost his friends.

And now, even his only way of communicating with the outside world had been taken away from him.

To Edward, it was simply discipline.

To Gemy...

it was a prison.

At his new school, a new life was about to begin.

But adapting to his new surroundings was not easy because Gemy was extremely shy.

He spent almost every day sitting alone.

He watched his classmates talk, laugh, and spend time together while he remained silent.

A few days later, one of his classmates noticed how lonely he was.

His name was Nathan Morgan.

One day during recess, Nathan approached him.

— Hi...

Gemy timidly looked up.

It was the first time since arriving at the school that someone had willingly come to talk to him.

As the days passed, the two boys got to know each other.

They quickly became very close friends.

They spent their breaks together, helped each other with homework, and talked about many different things.

For the first time in a long while, Gemy had someone he could truly call a friend.

But their closeness soon attracted the attention of the other students.

Some of them began making fun of them.

— Look at them!

— They would make such a cute couple!

— Are you two in love or something?

The others burst into laughter.

But Gemy did not understand why they said such things.

To him, Nathan was simply a friend.

A very good friend.

So why did the others see them that way?

Why?

It was only later that Gemy began to understand.

One day, while working on an assignment with Nathan, Nathan remained silent for a few moments.

Then he whispered:

— Does it bother you when people call us a couple?

Gemy did not immediately understand why Nathan was asking him that.

He lowered his head slightly.

— How could I like that? We're both boys...

Nathan remained silent.

Then he slowly stood up.

— I see...

Gemy looked at him.

— What's wrong?

Nathan looked away.

— I see that you've never been able to understand what was in my heart...

— What are you talking about?

Nathan turned around and walked toward the door.

Before leaving, he stopped.

— You may not have realized it... but I've always loved you.

Then he walked away.

Gemy remained alone, completely confused.

He did not understand what had just happened.

He kept thinking about Nathan's words.

I've always loved you.

For the first time, he understood why the other students had always seen them as a couple.

But one question remained:

What was he supposed to do with what he had just learned?

After that, the two boys began keeping their distance from each other.

Gemy did not know how to react to Nathan's confession.

Nathan, for his part, seemed to understand that perhaps it was better to give Gemy some space.

But that distance quickly began to weigh on Gemy.

He felt a deep emptiness around him.

Being separated from his only true friend hurt more than he expected.

Because what he really wanted was not to be away from Nathan.

He wanted to keep being with him.

To keep talking to him.

To laugh with him.

To share the moments they had always shared.

And that absence eventually made him realize something.

What he felt for Nathan might have gone beyond simple friendship.

The emptiness he felt was not merely the loss of a friend.

Perhaps...

it was love.

That thought frightened him.

Because it went against everything he had been taught about what a man was supposed to be.

For the first time, Gemy wondered:

— Why do I feel this way about him?

He did not have the answer yet.

But something inside him had changed.

So, wanting to clear his mind, Gemy decided to talk to Nathan.

He stopped him in one of the school corridors.

Nathan turned around, surprised.

Gemy remained silent for a few seconds.

He was searching for the words to express what he was feeling.

Finally, he took a breath.

— Nathan...

Nathan waited.

— I didn't know how to tell you this...

Gemy lowered his eyes.

— Ever since you told me how you felt about me, I haven't been able to stop thinking about it.

Nathan said nothing.

— At first, I thought I only missed you because you were my best friend.

He paused.

— But I realized it wasn't just that.

He looked up.

— When you were away from me, I felt an emptiness I couldn't explain. And when I understood why... I was scared.

— Scared of what? Nathan asked.

Gemy hesitated.

— Of what I feel for you.

Silence filled the corridor.

— I don't know exactly when it happened. I don't even know how to explain it.

He took a deep breath.

— But I know one thing.

He looked at Nathan.

— I don't want to be away from you anymore.

Then he quietly added:

— I think... I love you too.

Nathan was happy to hear those words.

For a few seconds, he remained silent, as if he could hardly believe what he had heard.

Then, deeply moved, he hugged Gemy.

Gemy did not pull away.

After all those days of distance and confusion, they had finally understood what they felt for each other.

The two boys shared a kiss.

But they did not know that someone was watching them.

One of their classmates had seen them.

— Oh... he whispered.

He took out his phone and began recording them.

Gemy and Nathan did not notice.

They had no idea that someone had recorded that private moment.

And that video was about to change their lives.

The evidence was there.

All the classmate had to do was reveal it.

He decided to post the video on social media so that everyone could see it.

That same day, he shared it with several other students.

Everyone who received it was shocked.

But Gemy and Nathan knew nothing about it.

When they arrived at school, they quickly noticed that the other students were looking at them strangely.

Whispers began.

Then laughter.

— Oh, here come the two lovers of the moment... one student whispered.

— They look so good together...

Laughter followed.

Gemy and Nathan still did not understand what was happening.

It was only when Nathan received the video on his phone that he understood.

Gemy saw it too.

He finally realized why everyone had been looking at them.

The teasing continued.

Gemy felt terrible.

He could no longer bear the looks and laughter.

He left.

Nathan immediately followed him.

He did not want to leave him alone.

Once they were away from everyone else, Gemy remained silent.

Then he whispered:

— Is it wrong... what we feel for each other?

Nathan looked at him.

He answered without hesitation:

— It isn't up to other people to tell us what we should or shouldn't do.

He paused.

— We should be free to make our own decisions.

Those words made Gemy think about his father.

Edward had always made decisions for him.

He told him how to behave, how to think, and what kind of man he was supposed to become.

Gemy had been treated like a robot obeying its master.

But Nathan's words made him realize something:

All his life, he had allowed other people to decide for him.

His father had chosen his future.

His father had chosen his school.

His father had decided to separate him from his mother.

Gemy now had to learn to make his own decisions.

They spent some time together before eventually going home.

But Gemy could not stop thinking about Nathan.

He felt free after admitting his feelings.

For the first time, he believed that no one had the right to decide what their relationship should be.

At least...

that was what he thought.

Because as soon as he returned home, he realized things were about to change.

His father, Edward, was already there.

Like almost everyone else, he had seen the video.

He looked at his son angrily.

— How could you do this to me, Gemy?

Gemy remained silent.

— I've done everything to make sure you followed the right example, Edward continued. But all you've done is disappoint me...

He shook his head.

— How could you do this to me?

Gemy did not answer.

Edward continued:

— This is all your mother's fault... It's her fault!

Gemy looked up.

— If she hadn't influenced you, we would never have ended up like this!

Hearing that, Gemy felt anger rising inside him.

— Enough!

Edward was shocked.

— How dare you speak to me like that?

Gemy took a long breath.

Then he answered:

— I don't want to follow your rules anymore.

Edward stared at him.

— I want to live my own life. You've always tried to decide everything for me. You've never allowed me to express myself.

He paused.

— Today, I'm telling you this: I'm not your possession.

His voice trembled, but he continued:

— I'm your son. I'm a man who deserves respect. So respect my decision, even if you don't agree with it.

A heavy silence filled the room.

For the first time, Gemy had stood up to his father.

But Edward refused to accept it.

He whispered:

— Respect you like this...? How could I respect you when all you do is disappoint me?

But Gemy had already made his decision.

He no longer wanted to listen to his father.

He went upstairs to his room.

A few minutes later, he came back down with a suitcase.

Edward stared at him in disbelief.

— What are you doing?

— I'm leaving.

Edward realized that his son was serious.

He tried one final threat.

— Gemy, if you walk out of this house, you'll lose your entire inheritance.

Gemy remained silent for a few seconds.

The threat did not frighten him.

The inheritance meant nothing to him anymore.

He looked at his father one last time.

— I don't need your inheritance to know who I am.

Then he walked out the door.

For Gemy, leaving was a true liberation.

For the first time in his life, he had made a decision entirely on his own.

A decision that would bring him closer to the people he loved most:

his mother and Nathan.

Gemy walked for a long time with his suitcase, without knowing exactly where to go.

He had left his father's house, but one question remained in his mind:

Where could he go now?

He immediately thought of his mother.

But he no longer knew her address.

Since Edward had taken away his phone and separated him from her, Gemy had no way to contact her.

He continued walking.

Then an idea came to him.

He remembered a place where his mother had once taken him when he was younger.

His grandmother's house.

His mother's mother.

Perhaps she knew where Charlene was living.

Gemy decided to go there.

After several hours of walking and traveling, he finally arrived at a small house he still remembered despite the years that had passed.

He stood in front of the door for a few seconds.

His heart was beating rapidly.

Then he knocked.

A few moments later, the door opened.

An elderly woman appeared.

She froze when she saw the young man standing in front of her.

— Gemy...?

Gemy felt tears filling his eyes.

— Grandma...

She looked him up and down and noticed his suitcase.

Her expression immediately changed.

— What happened?

Gemy could no longer hold back his tears.

He threw his arms around her.

— I left Dad's house...

His grandmother held him tightly.

She immediately understood that something serious had happened.

After a few moments, Gemy told her everything.

The video.

His father's reaction.

Their argument.

And finally, his decision to leave.

His grandmother listened without interrupting.

When he finished, she gently touched his hair.

— You did the right thing by coming here.

Gemy looked up.

— Grandma... I want to find Mom.

The old woman remained silent for a few seconds.

Then she finally gave him the information he had been hoping for.

— I know where she lives.

Gemy's eyes widened.

— Where?

His grandmother gave him Charlene's address.

For the first time since leaving his father's house, Gemy felt a genuine spark of hope.

He was finally going to see his mother again.

The next morning, Gemy went to the address his grandmother had given him.

The closer he got, the faster his heart beat.

He had imagined this reunion hundreds of times.

But now that it was finally about to happen, he did not know what to say.

Eventually, he arrived in front of a house.

He stood there for a few seconds.

Then he knocked.

Once.

Twice.

The door opened.

Charlene appeared.

For a few seconds, she did not recognize her son.

Then her eyes widened.

— Gemy...?

Gemy said nothing.

Tears were already running down his face.

— Mom...

Charlene covered her mouth with one hand.

She stood frozen, as if afraid that what she was seeing was only a dream.

Then she rushed toward him.

She wrapped her arms around him.

Gemy held onto her like he had when he was a child.

Neither of them spoke for a long moment.

They simply needed to be together again.

Charlene was crying.

— I thought I would never see you again...

Gemy closed his eyes.

— Me too, Mom...

She pulled back slightly and looked at his face.

— Why did you come here alone?

Gemy lowered his eyes.

— Because I didn't want to live with Dad anymore.

Charlene understood that her son had finally decided to break free from his father's control.

She hugged him again.

— You don't have to face all of this alone anymore.

For Gemy, those few words meant everything.

After years of feeling like a prisoner, he had finally found the person with whom he had always felt truly loved.

His mother.

But there was still someone else Gemy wanted to see.

Nathan.

He knew he had to talk to him.

He did not want to hide anymore.

He did not want fear to make his decisions for him.

He simply wanted to be honest with him.

Because after leaving his father, Gemy had understood something:

Freedom was not simply about leaving.

It was also about being able to choose the people he wanted to keep in his life.

And Nathan now held a special place in his heart.

A few days later, Gemy met Nathan again.

When they saw each other, neither of them spoke immediately.

They simply looked at one another.

Then Nathan stepped closer.

— You left...

Gemy nodded.

— Yes.

— Why?

Gemy looked at his friend.

— Because I didn't want someone else deciding my life anymore.

Nathan remained silent.

Then Gemy added:

— And because I didn't want to lose you.

Nathan smiled.

The two boys stayed together for a long time.

Gemy knew that their journey would not always be easy.

There would still be looks.

Judgment.

People who would not understand their choices.

But this time, he no longer wanted to let other people make his decisions for him.

He had realized that some prisons had no bars, no walls, and no doors.

They could be built from other people's expectations, prejudice, fear, and the rules imposed on those who did not fit the image others had created for them.

For a long time, Gemy had been a prisoner of the logic of men.

But now, he had chosen to take control of his own decisions.

He had found his mother.

He had found Nathan.

And most importantly...

he had finally found himself.

For the first time in his life, Gemy no longer felt as though he was living according to someone else's will.

He was now moving forward according to his own choices.

And for the first time...

he was free.
