Summary

Keith Alexis once took pride in being an alpha at the top of the social ladder—a prideful, ignorant young man who knew nothing of how the harsh world truly worked. After befriending a dominant alpha, a devastating event unfolds that forever traumatizes and shatters his life. The once-proud alpha is reduced to something else entirely: a rare omega, unable to function without an alpha, place in a marriage that will determine how his life flows. How will his life unfold, and what happens when he is forced to face his traumatic past once again? Will he ever truly recover from the shadows of what he lost, or will he remain permanently crippled by that unforgettable event? This is the story of Pheromones: The Fallen Alpha.

Chapter 1

Keith's Pov

Alphas are known for their dominant traits—seeking control, athletic, intelligent, and their physical attributes surpass the rest. Their pheromones and dominant traits are known to make others yield before them. They are the apex of all apexes, they say; who wouldn't want to be like that? But that's only if you can get through the occasional rut without damaging someone. But that's a topic We'll continue later.

Then there are my favorites: the betas. The gender that takes up most of the world's population, they are simple people, average ones for the most part, basic intelligence, basic physical traits, barely any pheromones or domineering traits, though you do have those who stand out from time to time. Betas don't get ruts, don't smell strongly of pheromones and cannot smell either, and it's ever so rare that they get affected by the problems of the other genders, which makes their lives less complicated than others.

And lastly, the oppressed creatures: omegas. Weak, frail, and fragile. They are creatures that cannot be defined by standard male or female terms—it doesn't matter; they can still reproduce. Their pheromones curse them periodically in the form of what we call a "heat." It's much like an alpha's season, and once these two collide, both sides lose their sanity. We avoid that unless mated.

I am not a beta, nor an omega. An alpha, yes—although sometimes I don't feel like one. Let me introduce myself. I'm Keith Alexis, and this is me trying to find my path as a recessive alpha.

"Keith! Come over here!"

I looked over to see my friend Derek. He is an alpha—a very dominant alpha. No one questions his gender; no one dares to challenge him. He is a leader who excels, and I truly admire him.

"Derek," I acknowledged.

I walked over as he soon wrapped his arm around my neck, smiling. "Later this weekend we are having a little get-together. You better come, understand? Don't bail out on us, okay?"

"I won't, trust me."

Derek is from a well-off family, and so am I, though not quite as much as his. His friends, Hansen and Sam, also come from higher social standings, but truly no one can scratch the Vangraf family's influence. To be honest, I like the authority I get when hanging around them; it makes me feel great.

"Move out of the way!"

Derek pushed a beta male out of the way and continued walking through the hall. I said nothing since that beta was in the way, and there were four of us. It's a known fact that no one should stand in the way of alphas. We are at the top of the social ladder, and everyone else is beneath us.

Soon we all entered the classroom, where we saw my favorite omega: MacKenzie. He looked at me and waved, giving me a friendly smile. Derek held me tightly, grinning. "Waving to your omega now, Keith? He is cute."

I rolled my eyes at him and chuckled. "He is not my omega," I corrected him, though I'd certainly like it to be that way.

But MacKenzie already has a boyfriend whom he is planning to make his mate. I get so jealous thinking about it every single time.

"Then why don't you make it that way?" Derek asked.

"Hm? What?"

"Hmm, I have an idea. Why not bring him to our get-together? Once he gets a good look at how great his life could be with you, he won't even bother with Garfield. Haha, I mean, what kind of name is that? No nerdy, half-baked alpha is a match for us."

I thought for a moment. If I can get MacKenzie to like me at this get-together, then of course—after all, Derek throws the best get-together on the planet. Garfield stood no chance.

After all, MacKenzie was my childhood friend; we should be sweethearts. As a matter of fact, I won't lose to you, Garfield. MacKenzie is mine.

After school was over, MacKenzie was waiting at the classroom door alongside Garfield. It's normal for us all to walk home together. I can be driven, but I prefer to walk with my beloved MacKenzie—so why is Garfield always intruding on our time recently?

I growled under my breath but kept my distance as MacKenzie held my hand, guiding me outside.

"Hey MacKenzie, next week Derek is hosting a get-together. Why don't you join us?"

MacKenzie slowed his steps, letting go of my hand—did I forget to mention he was holding Garfield's hand as well? Though Garfield was stuck in his book, such a boring alpha.

MacKenzie looked at Garfield, then back at me with concern. Garfield finally put his book down, seemingly having a silent agreement with MacKenzie that I knew nothing about.
