Chapter 1 - New Job
Ravensvale. A small and quiet town located near a forest. In an apartment, Alex, a black haired man in his early twenties, was doing some last minute chores before going to his new job. After putting the last of the dirty dishes in the dishwasher, he decided to check the time.
10:00 P.M.
“Time to go.” Alex mutters to himself. On the way to his bedroom, he sees his roommate and long-time friend, Richard, a bearded man with blonde hair, currently dressed in pajamas.
“Hey Alex. Going to that new job? Where was it again?” Richard asks as he flips through the different channels.
“Yeah. It’s in a graveyard.” Alex says, shrugging his arms.
“Graveyard, eh? You think something’s creepy going to happen?” Richard says in a joking way.
Alex rolls his eyes. “Oh please. The worst that’s going would be trespassers or people that want to vandalize buildings.”
Richard snorts, and immediately adjusts himself. “Well, if you get murdered, I’ll know where to look first.”
Alex sighs, and enters his room. He quickly puts on his white guard uniform, and rubs out any remaining wrinkles on his button up shirt. After arriving at the graveyard, the building seemed to tower over Alex as he drove into the parking lot. He quickly parked his car and hastily took out his keys.
After making his way to the graveyard as he fumbles with the keys, given to him after the initial interview. As he walks through the graveyard, he bumps into Larry, the owner of the graveyard, and a middle aged man with greying hair.
“Ah. You’re the security guard. Follow me.” Alex nods as Larry says this, feeling a sense of unease.
He follows the man as he leads him to the supply closet. Inside, he was presented with a flashlight and another set of keys. “In case you need to access the maintenance shed.” he says.
“Now, you’ll be patrolling the grounds. Just make sure no one gets in. The graves should be tidy and the tombstones should be clean.” The man then points to a worn map on the wall. “I’ve marked areas of concern on here. There have been some instances of people trying to sneak in after hours. Try to make sure nothing happens.”
Alex nods as Larry says this. ‘All right. This shouldn’t be too bad.’ He thinks to himself.
“Please don’t go into the mausoleum. It’s not exactly the safest place to enter right now. I’ve been meaning to find the time to fix it, but I couldn’t find a good time.” As Larry says this, Alex nods in agreement.
“All right. Got any questions?”
“No sir, I don’t.”
Larry nods. “All right. Good luck.” He then leaves, and Alex is left alone with his thoughts.
“All right. I’ll start with walking around.” Alex mutters to himself, while turning on the flashlight.
Alex then starts to patrol around the graveyard, and the place was huge. There are multiple winding stone paths and hidden corners, making it confusing for one working their first day there.
As Alex went down one path, he couldn’t shake the feeling that someone or something was watching him from the darkness. He kept glancing over his shoulder, as he kept expecting to see something in the dark. Despite his unease, he remained alert.
Out of the corner of his eye, he thought he saw someone going around a corner, causing his head to immediately turn in the direction.
‘Did I just see someone?’ He thinks to himself.
He then decides to walk around the corner, and peeks around it quickly. He moves into the area, and runs his flashlight around. The place was empty, which immediately creeped him out.
“All right....” Alex says, before quickly walking off. Once Alex left, the figure pokes out from behind a tree.
Once he was back in the office, he made sure the door was locked, before sitting down on the chair.
“Okay, let’s keep an eye on the cameras.” Alex mutters to himself. “... Thank God I brought a book.”
A few hours later, Alex, currently sipping a can of soda, noticed something on the camera. It was hard to see who it was. The shadowed figure took a quick look around, before disappearing.
‘Weird.’ Alex thinks to himself. ‘Probably just a teenager who broke in.’
Once 6 A.M. hits, Alex walks back to his car with a bit of unease, and proceeds to drive back home. After arriving, he changes his clothes into pajamas and flips onto his bed.
