Chapter -1: I want to kiss you

Ishita did not want to go.

A masquerade party. Masks. Heavy dresses. Fake smiles. And all those people from her father's company who only cared about showing off. For her, it was the definition of boring. But Sneha had been after her since morning.

"Ishita, please yaar," Sneha said, lying on her stomach on the bed. "I don't want to go alone. If you don't come, I'll cancel too."

Ishita pulled the blanket over her face and turned to the other side.

"I'm not coming, Sneha. You go and enjoy. I'll just watch my series and sleep."

"If you don't get up in five minutes, I swear I'll drag you downstairs with this blanket," Sneha said seriously. There was no joke in her voice.

Ishita peeked out a little.

"I don't even have anything special to wear. And honestly, I just don't want to go."

Sneha laughed.

"Stop lying. That black dress and golden mask Auntiji gave you last week? I already saw it. You're ready. You're just not in the mood. Tell me the truth... is it because of Rajveer?"

Ishita went completely silent.

Sneha had hit the exact spot.

Rajveer.

Just hearing the name made her heart beat faster. Her father's best friend. Almost like family. Every time he came over, something strange happened inside her. She couldn't look him in the eyes. She got lost in his voice whenever they spoke. Sometimes at night she wondered... if she was a little older, if things were different... what would it be like?

But reality was simple.

Everything about this was wrong.

The age gap. The relationship. Her father's trust. Everything.

Still, her heart refused to listen.

"Fine," Ishita finally gave in and threw the blanket aside. "I'm coming. But we're leaving early. And don't leave me alone there. Promise?"

Sneha jumped up with a winning smile.

"Promise. Now hurry up and get ready. Today I'll show you what real fun looks like."

---

Ishita took a shower and put on the black dress. It clung to her body, the neckline a little deep, the back almost open. When she wore the golden mask and looked at herself in the mirror, even she was surprised. The mask made her look mysterious. She didn't look like the simple Ishita who stayed home all day.

Sneha clapped.

"Today you're going to kill everyone. If Rajveer sees you-"

"Shut up," Ishita cut her off immediately, but a light blush spread across her face.

---

By 9:15 p.m., they entered the ballroom.

The place was already packed. People wore masks, women in heavy dresses, men in sharp suits. The clinking of champagne glasses, soft music, and dim golden lights created an atmosphere that felt mysterious... almost dangerous.

Sneha spotted her parents and went to them after a while. Ishita was left alone in a corner. She took a glass of champagne from a waiter and started drinking slowly. First glass... second... third. A light buzz settled in, and the fear inside her started to fade. She thought, why not go to the dance floor? What was the harm? She was wearing a mask. No one would recognise her.

She walked slowly towards the dance floor. People were dancing, laughing, standing too close to each other. Ishita closed her eyes and started moving a little to the music. Tonight felt different. The mask had given her a strange kind of courage. Like she was living someone else's life.

Then...

A strong hand settled on her waist.

Ishita's entire body went stiff. That cologne filled her nose... the exact same one that always came from Rajveer's clothes. The one that stayed in the room long after he left. The one she had remembered on so many lonely nights.

"Dancing alone?" a husky voice asked right next to her ear.

Ishita's breath caught. She turned her head slowly. Even behind the mask, she recognised him. Rajveer. Black suit, hair casually styled, jawline sharp enough to cut, and those eyes... looking straight into her as if he could see through everything.

She only nodded. She couldn't speak.

Rajveer held her waist a little tighter and pulled her closer. Their bodies were completely pressed together. They started moving slowly to the music. Ishita's heart was beating so hard she was sure he could feel it. His hands stayed on her waist, fingers sometimes sliding lower, like he was slowly losing control.

"Your scent..." Rajveer said near her ear, "is making me want to do something very wrong tonight."

There was no usual control in his voice. Just hunger. And danger.

Ishita closed her eyes. She didn't reply. She just rested her head on his shoulder. Rajveer's hand was now on her back, slowly moving lower. His touch sent current through her body. Then he lifted her chin and looked into her eyes through the mask.

"I want to kiss you," he said clearly. "If you want to stop me, do it now. Don't say later that I forced you."

Ishita didn't stop him.

She leaned in herself.

Rajveer didn't waste a second. He pulled her into a dark corner and took her mouth. The kiss wasn't soft. It was hungry. Like he had been starving for months. Ishita grabbed his hair and deepened it. Rajveer's hands moved over her body - waist, back, then lower - like he wanted to memorise her. Like he wanted to make her his.

After a while, he pulled back. Both of them were breathing hard. There was darkness in Rajveer's eyes.

"Let's get out of here," he said. His voice was so low and dangerous that current ran through Ishita's body again.

She nodded. She didn't have the courage to speak. She just held his hand a little tighter.

They moved away from the crowd and walked down the long corridor. Ishita's heart was racing. She knew exactly what was about to happen. A bathroom. Darkness. And this man... her father's best friend. The man who was never supposed to look at her this way. But tonight, the mask had changed everything.

Tonight she wasn't Ishita.

Tonight she was just a girl who had wanted this man for years.

Who had touched herself at night thinking about him.

And tonight, he was in her hands.

At the end of the corridor, an empty bathroom appeared. Rajveer looked into her eyes before letting go of her hand. Even behind the masks, the tension was thick.

He opened the door.

Ishita stepped inside.

Rajveer followed and locked it.

Outside, the music was still playing...

Inside, there was only the sound of their heavy breathing.

And neither of them knew how complicated life was about to become once the masks came off.

Ku_Rolet: The novel was good, and I really enjoyed reading it. I love the leads and their bond, but I have one question that confused me. How could Tristan have been dreaming about his mate since he was a child if Omara was already mated to someone else before him? If Kyle had accepted Omara, would Tristan ne...
