Chapter one: THE GIRL WHO NEVER STAYED
“Please mum, just this once”.
I stood in the middle of my bedroom, staring at the half packed boxes scattered across the floor.
I couldn't believe we were doing this again like I'm honestly so sick and tired of moving from one state to the other like some kind of delivery box.
“Emily, we've talked about this... why you bringing this up again?” Mum said calmly folding another shirt into the box
“NO!, you talked about it, but i didn't agree to anything”. I said angrily
She signed and looked at me
“We are moving next week”
“Whyyyyyy”
“You know why already, your father's work”
I let out a frustrated sign “it's always about dad's work”
“Emilyyyyyy??”...
“No mum NO!., I'M SOOO TIRED OF ALWAYS MOVING OUT AND RESTARTING MY LIFE EVERY DAMN TIME!.
“Emily, language” mum said with a cold voice
“No!” I shook my head, feeling the tears already running down my eyes “I'm tired mum, I'm tired”.
She stopped folding for a moment, neither of us said anything
I looked around my room, The pictures tapped on the wall, the books I'd arranged on my shelf and the tiny collection of things I'd convinced myself were finally making this place feel like home.
“I just got here” i whispered
Mum's expression softened
“I know sweetheart”
“No you don't!.” I said harshly
I paused for a moment
“Everytime i make new friends, we leave. Everytime i finally like my school we leave. Everytime i start feeling like i belong somewhere, we leaveeeee....” i glanced at the half unpacked boxes “you pack everything up and tell me we're starting over”.
“Your father doesn't have a choice and you know that”
“Then maybe i don't have a choice either”
Mum came closer, but i stepped back
“Please don't make me move again” she whispered with her eyes filled with sadness
“I wish it were that simple”
I looked at her waiting
“Please mum, please just this onceeee” i begged
She reached for my hand but didn't say anything and somehow the silence hurt more than anything because i already knew what it meant...
We're leaving Again
Hi I'm Emily.
And if you're wondering why moving is such a big deal to me, well… I've had than what I can remember.
My parents jobs have always kept us moving from one place to another. New cities, New schools, New houses, New faces.
I've lost count of how many times I've had to introduce myself, make friends, learn my way around a new neighborhood, and then eventually say goodbye.
I'm Nineteen, and honestly I'm tired of starting over again and again and again and AGAIN!.
I don't hate my parents...I love them more than anything, and I know they aren't moving just cause they want to make my life miserable.
But sometimes, I wish they can understand this whole thing from my point of view. I mean... some places are just so memorable to leave.
Sometimes, it becomes home.... a safe place.
And for once, I had finally found one.
At least, I thought I had.
Because apparently, my story is about to change again
