Dathdalia was not created by gods. It was born from grief.

When Father Time, TEMP, lost his wife Abi - the Mother who could shape life - he was left with two jealous children: the Sun and the Moon, ISHA. And a world populated by beasts who could take human form.

For centuries, the Bears ruled.

Carr, the black bear, was not born a king. Third son of a minor chieftain, he united the three bear clans through blood and pacts. He conquered the steppes of the lions, the mountains of the gray tigers, and built Otan - the first stone city in the Blue Valley. He took a lioness as queen.

But his law was absolute: no human without a beast form could live.

When Queen Analia gives birth to a child born fully human, everything collapses.

On the same night, the Brown Bears rebel. The Bengal tigers whisper from the shadows. And Azag of the Storm - the queen's own brother, a young lion with one eye less and a sister to save - sinks his fangs into the neck of the Bear King.

He rips out a fang. Sets it in the crown. And begins the tradition that will damn the kingdom:

The king who takes the crown must add to it the fang of his predecessor.

Summary

Carr was born a nobody — third son of a weak bear chieftain, with no army, no city, and no destiny. Until he decided to burn the old law. In ten years, he united the Bear Clans. He enslaved the Lions. He hunted the Tigers to extinction in the mountains. And in the heart of the Blue Valley, he built Otan, the first empire of stone the world had ever seen. His queen is a lioness. His law is simple: No pure human may live. Then his queen gives birth to a child with no beast. No claws. No fur. Just human skin. And everything Carr built begins to fall. His generals betray him. His queen hides a secret that will shatter his bloodline. And his brother-in-law, Azag Storm-Mane — a young lion prince who watched his sister be forced into the Bear's bed — is waiting for one moment to sink his fangs into the king's neck. To become the next king, you must add the fang of the old king to the crown. This is how the tradition of the Colmillos began. This is how empires eat their fathers.

Chronicles of the Fang Crown is, without a doubt, my most ambitious creation and the one that demands the most from me. With it, I venture into a genre I deeply love: epic fantasy. My intention is to invite the reader to discover a new world where our logic is only half-shared and where diverse characters live, capable of awakening intense passions, from profound empathy to utter repulsion.

Fantasy is the mother of this entire continent called Dathdalia — a name I borrowed and adapted as a tribute to the great Salvadoran writer Salarrué and his beautiful book O-Yarkandal. In this story, magic has already engendered everything known; what will truly be new is what each reader brings from their own imagination. I trust that those who enjoy these pages possess an imagination even greater than mine to finish invoking what I could only sketch in letters.
