WARNING Readers beware read at your own risk

My story that I am posting contains highly mature content. This can include descriptions and references to things such as highly explicit sexual content, violence and sexual violence. I recognize that some of my writing is likely to contain content which is considered by some to be triggering, however I feel that writing trigger warnings for my story will result in a large amount of spoilers for the rest of my readers, and I don’t want to decide myself which themes need a warning and which don’t.

Part 1

The female werewolf population was in steady decline. The Moon Goddess had adapted to the change, and most fated bonds were now male to male. Some rejecting the practice, others accepted the Goddess’s guidance, finding love and companionship in their bonds.

Male to female fated pairings were highly revered, but they were never guaranteed. That created its own problems. Packs risked losing the few females they had to other packs, driving many to sever contact with outsiders altogether.

In the name of protecting the species, the Council stripped females of their rights. We could no longer be warriors or hold positions involving danger or violence. With the vampire population on the rise, and their ability to turn others in a matter of seconds, female werewolves had become critical to our survival.

I had trained with my father and brothers since I could walk. Once, I had been a force to be reckoned with, regardless of my sex. Through my father’s connections, I’d been granted special clearance to assist with combat training, but that was as close to battle as I would ever get. And I hated it.

The Council considered even allowing me to train others a special favour to my father. I was also only allowed to continue with other packs if my gender remained hidden as to not stir trouble. With war looming, the council needed every fighter they could get, and every warrior needed to be trained. I was an asset, and they knew it, even if they would not acknowledge it or me.

For months packs began arriving from across the territories for additional training and assessment. For now, our warrior numbers were strong thanks to the higher birth rates of males. But it was only a matter of time before the remaining females aged out. Then we all knew what was coming, fewer births, even fewer females, and eventually if this continued, the extinction of our race all together.

Before we could focus on rebuilding and stabilising our kind, we had to survive the war. The training we were doing was not just important. It was our only chance of survival as a species.

Rodela: I have been reading in Inkitt for quite some years now, but this is the 2nd time I am reading a story as well knitted as this one. The plot was as generic as possible, yet, it gave answers to many questions other werewolf stories couldn't. Most importantly, it made me realize what I want with my lif...
