Chapter 1

The rain beat heavily against the stone arches of the courtyard as Kael stood in the shadows, struggling to suppress the dark aura crackling around him. Half-cloaked in fur and possessing eyes that glowed like burning embers, he was a creature of legend—a beast man gifted with the terrifying ability to manipulate kinetic energy. Every step he took left scorched footprints on the cobblestone, his supernatural power roaring just beneath his skin, wildly out of control.

He had lived in isolation for years, feared by the surrounding villages for the destructive force he wielded whenever his emotions spiked. But tonight was different. Tonight, he hadn't fled into the deep forest.

Elena stepped out into the downpour, unbothered by the cold or the intimidating figure standing before her. She had seen past his intimidating stature and the power that frightened everyone else, recognizing the exhaustion and loneliness he carried instead.

"You don't have to keep running, Kael," she said, her voice steady against the howling wind.

"Stay back, Elena," Kael growled, his voice a low, rumbling resonance that vibrated through the air. A surge of crimson energy flared across his arms. "I can't control it tonight. You'll get hurt."

Instead of retreating, Elena took a deliberate step forward, closing the distance between them until she was standing directly within the radiant heat of his aura. Gently, she reached out and rested her hands against his chest, feeling the frantic, heavy beat of his heart. Kael froze, terrified that his volatile power would harm her, but she didn't flinch.

Rising on her tiptoes, she leaned in and kissed him.

In an instant, the wild, crackling energy surrounding Kael vanished into thin air. The glowing embers in his eyes softened and faded back to a warm, natural brown. The dark fur along his arms receded, and the looming, monstrous frame shrank back into the form of a mortal man. For the first time in years, the crushing weight of the supernatural force inside him went quiet, replaced by a deep, profound calm.

Kael took a long, trembling breath, looking down at his ordinary human hands in awe before looking at Elena, who was smiling softly in the rain.
