Third pov;
The rain didn't just fall—it raged.
It came down like a heavy curtain of silver, swallowing the bloodstained battlefield beneath a violent, bruised purple sky.
Flash.
Lightning tore across the heavy clouds, illuminating the nightmare around her.
CLANG.
The sharp, deafening sound of metal striking metal echoed through the storm, vibrating deep within her chest.
A young woman stumbled backward into the darkness until her shoulders slammed into a ice-cold stone wall. Her chest heaved, breath coming in shallow, frantic gasps as her soaked clothes clung to her freezing skin.
Where am I?
Why am I here?
She didn't know the answers. She didn't even know her own footing.
But her racing heart told her one thing—she was terrified.
Soldiers in heavy armor rushed past her through the thick mud, their shouting drowned out by the screams of horses and the thunder above. The ground literally trembled beneath the chaos.
And then... she saw them.
Just a few feet away, a warrior knelt in the mud. Their dark armor was battered, scraped, and smeared with dirt. Blood mixed with the falling rain around their knees.
The princess froze.
Her breath caught entirely in her throat.
Something deep inside her—something ancient and raw—recognized those eyes.
She didn't know this warrior. She had never seen this face a day in her life. Yet the exact second their gaze locked, a devastating ache ripped through her chest.
It didn't feel like meeting a stranger.
It felt like losing someone she had spent a lifetime grieving.
Slowly, the warrior lifted their head, fighting through the pain.
Their lips moved.
“Run.”
The princess stared, the word lost to the roar of the wind.
“What?” she whispered.
The warrior pushed through the agony, their voice cutting sharp through the storm this time:
“Run!”
Behind the warrior, a shadow loomed.
The princess’s eyes dilated in pure horror as a massive, brutal broadsword rose into the freezing air.
Lightning flashed off the gleaming edge of the blade.
“No!” she screamed.
She tried to sprint forward. She tried to reach out. But her body felt paralyzed, rooted to the earth like lead.
The warrior looked at her one last time—a look filled with unspoken promises and endless sorrow.
And for one terrible, agonizing second, the entire universe stood completely still.
Then, the blade fell.
CLANG!
Preethi’s eyes flew open.
She sat bolt upright in bed, a sharp gasp tearing from her throat.
Her fingers wrapped tightly around the bedsheets, knuckles turning white as she fought to pull air back into her lungs.
No battlefield.
No purple sky.
No blood in the rain.
There was only soft, warm morning sunlight streaming lazily through the sheer curtains of her bedroom, painting the pastel walls in familiar gold.
Preethi stared at the wall, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird.
Slowly, she lifted a trembling hand and pressed it flat against her chest.
“What was that...?” she whispered to the empty room.
For a long moment, the silence weighed heavy.
Then, the faint, comforting clatter of dishes echoed from downstairs, accompanied by the rich, warm scent of freshly brewed cardamom tea floating up the hallway.
Home.
She closed her eyes, letting out a long, shaky exhale.
It was just a dream. A nightmare. That’s all it was.
She swung her legs over the side of the bed, trying to shake off the lingering chill of the rain. But no matter how hard she tried to push the nightmare away, one lingering question burned in the back of her mind:
Why did a complete stranger feel like someone she had been waiting for her entire life?
A/N: And that's Chapter 1! 😭 Who do you think the warrior was? And why did Preethi feel that connection?
