Chapter 1 (Butterfly Effect)

The Butterfly Effect : Chapter 1

By: J. I. Rosales

There once lived two childhood best friends in a town named Southwest Coast City, their names were Henry Flock and Angelina Kiriana. They were separated at a very young age when Angelina transferred to a new high school in Faigo Lake City, while Henry remained in SWCC. Years later in college, Henry had just arrived at DU (Duane University), when he came in his first class he bumped into a girl, the sudden collision sent the girl's books scattered on the floor. Henry immediately apologized and helped pick up the books, after helping he rushed to his seat and avoided eye contact with any other students. The girl saw how Henry acted and it reminded her of someone she couldn't quite figure out. Minutes passed as Henry sat in his seat tapping his foot repeatedly as he absentmindedly drummed his pen on the desk, he couldn't help but think that the clock was going backwards because of how long hours and minutes go by, but then suddenly their adviser Mrs. Jerona Delos Reyes entered the room and announced the attendance. As Mrs Jerona recited the names in alphabetical order, 'Amanda, Agga, Ashley, Angelina.. ' , Henry immediately perked up as he recognized the name but he knew that it wouldn't be her, probably just some new student or.., "Nevermind.. She's probably in some other school." Henry said. Few hours passed and recess had arrived, Everyone left the classroom leaving Henry alone scrolling on his phone until.. "hoy! Shy boy. Ano ginagawa mo?" The girl shouted from across the classroom that made Henry jump and nearly drop his phone. He immediately began sweating, unsure of what to say. "Hoy. Magsagot ka na man." The girl said. "A-.. Ako..?" Henry said his voice quiet. "Alangan. Sino pa ba? Tayo lang dito sa room. Yung Iba nasa cafeteria, bakit ayaw mo magsama sa kanila?" The girl said. ".. Ah wala lang.. Ayaw ko mag recess.." Henry answered. "Weh, tara samahan kita. Bilis, bago mag Iba ang isip ko." The girl said. Henry stared at the classroom doorway as childhood memories filled his mind. He glanced at the girl already walking towards the cafeteria and couldn't help but feel a sudden connection towards her. His hands balled into fists as his mind was filled with countless of memories that he shouldn't have. [Years Before, Elementary school] children laughter filled the atmosphere of the school grounds , "Angel? Angel..? Angelina?? nasaan ka na??" Henry said, "psst!" Angelina said as she hid behind a corner. "Hoy, Nakita na kita!" Henry shouted yet no one answered. When he turned to the corner he saw no one was there and the only one standing there was someone who can't let go of the past "grow up Flock." His classmate said as they walked past Henry. [End of Flashback] "Psst." The girl said as she led the way towards the cafeteria. Henry didn't respond but he wanted to, as the girl's silhouette disappeared around the corner. Henry reluctantly followed..
