Buffy Summers had always felt like she didn’t belong.
That was saying something, considering she lived in Sunnydale—where not belonging was practically a personality trait. But this was different. It wasn’t just that she preferred books over parties or that her sister, Cordelia Chase, treated popularity like oxygen.
It was deeper.
Like something in the universe had gone wrong.
Chapter 1: The Wrong Life
“Buffy, seriously, stop breathing near me,” Cordelia snapped, checking her reflection in a compact mirror.
Buffy adjusted her oversized sweater and rolled her eyes. “I’ll try to schedule my breathing for after school.”
Cordelia didn’t laugh. She never did.
At Sunnydale High, Cordelia Chase ruled. And Buffy? Buffy was the embarrassment—her quiet, bookish, painfully unglamorous little sister. While Cordelia floated through hallways with admirers orbiting her, Buffy kept her head down, clutching textbooks like armor.
And then there was them.
Spike leaned against the lockers, cigarette dangling from his lips, platinum hair catching the fluorescent light. Beside him, Drusilla—Dru—clung to his arm, her smudged eyeliner and unsettling giggle making people uneasy.
“Oi, Summers,” Spike called, eyes locking onto Buffy. “Lose your way to the library again?”
His friends snickered.
Angel stood nearby, brooding but amused. Darla leaned into him, whispering something cruel. Faith lounged against the wall, dressed in black lace and leather, watching everything with predatory interest. Oz, all dark eyeliner and quiet intensity, tapped his fingers to some unheard rhythm. Anyanka, sharp-eyed and blunt, smirked openly.
They were the untouchables.
The bullies.
And Buffy was their favorite target.
Dru tilted her head. “She smells like dust and sadness, Spike. Like forgotten things.”
Buffy swallowed hard and kept walking.
Chapter 2: The Library That Shouldn’t Exist
That night, Buffy stayed late.
The school library was quiet, safe. The only place where the world made sense—where things had rules, logic, explanations.
Except tonight.
She found a book that wasn’t supposed to be there.
Ancient. Leather-bound. Heavy with something that felt… alive.
“Slayers. Vampires. The Balance.”
Buffy frowned. “Okay, either someone’s into really intense fantasy, or—”
The lights flickered.
A chill ran down her spine.
And then—
A voice.
“You don’t belong here.”
Buffy spun around. “Hello? Anyone—”
Darkness swallowed the room.
Chapter 3: The Master’s Gift
When Buffy woke, she wasn’t in Sunnydale anymore.
Stone walls. Torches. The smell of decay.
And him.
The Master stood before her, ancient and smiling.
“So fragile,” he mused. “And yet… not meant for this world.”
Buffy tried to move, but her body felt heavy. Weak.
“What do you want from me?” she demanded.
The Master stepped closer. “You were placed in the wrong story, child. But I can fix that.”
Before she could scream, he sank his teeth into her neck.
Pain exploded.
Then nothing.
Chapter 4: Reborn
Buffy gasped as she came back.
But she wasn’t the same.
Everything was sharper. Louder. Brighter.
Hunger clawed at her insides.
“What did you do to me?” she whispered.
The Master smiled. “I set you free.”
Buffy staggered to her feet. She could hear heartbeats—dozens of them. Feel the pulse of life beyond the walls.
“I made you what you were always meant to be.”
A vampire.
Buffy stared at her reflection—
There wasn’t one.
Something inside her broke.
And something else… awakened.
Chapter 5: The Return
Sunnydale High didn’t know what hit it.
Buffy walked through the halls like a ghost reborn—confident, dangerous, untouchable.
Gone were the oversized clothes. Gone was the fear.
People stared.
Cordelia blinked. “Buffy?”
Buffy smiled—slow and sharp. “Hi, sis.”
And then Spike saw her.
For the first time… he didn’t laugh.
“What the hell happened to you?” he asked, eyes narrowing.
Buffy stepped closer, invading his space. “I grew up.”
Dru giggled, but it sounded uncertain now. “She’s different, Spike. She’s wrong.”
Buffy leaned in, whispering just for him—
“I could eat you alive.”
Spike smirked.
But something in his eyes flickered.
Interest.
Chapter 6: The New Slayer
The balance had been broken.
So the universe corrected itself.
Beth Winters arrived two days later.
Strong. Fast. Chosen.
The new Slayer.
She stood in the cemetery, gripping a stake, determination burning in her eyes.
“I’m here to stop you,” she said.
Buffy tilted her head, amused. “Oh, honey…”
In a blink, Buffy was in front of her.
“You’re too late.”
They clashed—strength against strength, destiny against defiance.
Beth fought like she had something to prove.
Buffy fought like she had nothing to lose.
Chapter 7: Shifting Loyalties
The school had changed.
The bullies weren’t so sure of themselves anymore.
Angel watched Buffy carefully. “She’s dangerous.”
“Yeah,” Spike said, lighting another cigarette. “That’s the point.”
Darla frowned. “You’re enjoying this too much.”
Spike smirked. “Maybe I am.”
Faith approached Buffy one night, hands in her jacket pockets. “You’re not scared of them anymore.”
Buffy shrugged. “Should I be?”
Faith grinned. “No.”
For the first time, Buffy wasn’t alone.
Not really.
Chapter 8: Sisters
Cordelia cornered her at home.
“What is wrong with you?” she demanded. “You’re acting like—like—”
“A monster?” Buffy offered.
Cordelia hesitated.
Buffy stepped closer. “You spent years treating me like I was nothing.”
“That’s not—”
“And now?” Buffy’s eyes darkened. “Now you’re afraid of me.”
Cordelia swallowed hard.
Buffy smiled faintly.
“Good.”
Chapter 9: The Rivalry
Beth wasn’t giving up.
Each night, she hunted Buffy harder.
Each fight grew more brutal.
“You’re supposed to be the hero!” Beth shouted during one clash.
Buffy laughed—a cold, hollow sound. “That’s your job now.”
Beth lunged.
Buffy caught her easily.
“Let’s see how long you last.”
Chapter 10: The Truth
The Master watched from the shadows.
“The world bends,” he whispered. “But it always finds balance.”
Buffy had been misplaced.
Now she was exactly where she belonged.
A predator.
A queen in the making.
And as she stood atop the ruins of her old life, blood on her lips and power in her veins—
Buffy realized something terrifying.
She didn’t want to go back.
