Oath
The Councilor’s Oath
I swear by the blood, the change, and the root that shapes me,
by the first fire and the first frost,
by all that was here before the Veil was drawn.
Nothing stands above the balance —
not my kind, not my grief, not even the law itself.
When the law fails, it is the law that must bend.
I will listen before I judge.
I will remember before I decide.
I will guard the balance so the old wounds are not opened twice.
I will protect what cannot sit at this table to defend itself.
My voice will be steady when the balance demands it,
and humble when I am wrong.
I renounce vengeance as a reason to govern.
I accept the weight of this seat
until my own voice chooses to set it down,
or until the Council decides I no longer should carry it.
Let the Veil bear witness,
that I swear it — by root, by blood, by change.
