Chapter 1
The Love I Found by Accident
Chapter One — The Stranger in the Rain
The rain had been falling for almost an hour when Amara finally decided to leave the café.
She pulled her jacket closer around her body and stepped outside. The street was almost empty, glowing beneath the golden lights of the shops.
Then she saw him.
A tall man stood beneath a broken umbrella, completely soaked. His black shirt clung to his body, and drops of rain ran down his face.
Amara tried not to stare.
She failed.
Their eyes met.
For a moment, everything around her seemed to disappear.
He smiled.
“Are you planning to keep staring at me,” he asked, “or are you going to help me escape this rain?”
Amara laughed.
“Maybe you deserve to get wet.”
“Maybe,” he said, stepping closer. “But I was hoping you'd be kind enough to save me.”
She shook her head, smiling.
“What's your name?”
“Daniel.”
“I'm Amara.”
“I know.”
Her smile disappeared.
“You know me?”
Daniel reached into his pocket and pulled out a small photograph.
Amara's heart stopped.
It was a picture of her.
“Where did you get that?”
Daniel looked at her with an expression she couldn't understand.
“I've been looking for you for three years.”
The rain suddenly felt colder.
“Why?”
He took a slow breath.
“Because three years ago, you saved my life.”
Amara stared at him.
“I've never seen you before.”
Daniel smiled sadly.
“You don't remember me.”
He stepped closer.
“But I have never forgotten you.”
And that was the moment Amara realized that the stranger standing in the rain wasn't a stranger at all.
He was the beginning of a love story she had unknowingly started three years ago.
And neither of them knew yet that someone was determined to keep them apart.
