Prologue
My story isn’t like most.
Being a young vampire in an age when technology keeps everyone’s eyes glued to a screen—and when news about the existence of vampires, or any other mythical creature, would hardly surprise anyone—makes my story even stranger.
Without a doubt, it will give you something to think about. At the very least, I hope my story reaches as many eyes and ears as possible.
My parents, obviously, have no idea I’m a vampire. They’re old-school—so much so that they’re doing everything they can to get me a job at the IMSS, the Mexican Social Security Institute, for those who aren’t familiar with it.
At my age, and as a vampire, working somewhere with access to blood banks might not be such a bad thing. The downside is that I’d be working there for the rest of my life.
Can you imagine a vampire working at the Social Security Institute forever? Decades… perhaps even centuries, watching everyone grow older except him.
Honestly, the idea doesn’t exactly thrill me. But after everything I’ve been through, a little peace and quiet might do me some good…
I suppose…
