I take a long drag of the lit cigarrete, the nicotine doing a fine job of both calming my senses and keeping me warm. The early winter breeze is playfully tousling my hair and to be honest I like it. Drawing my cardigan closer, I continue walking along the avenue, my favourite place in this city, enjoying the beauty of twilight and thinking about what's about to happen tomorrow. I would've avoided it at all costs if I could but I couldn't and that makes me feel vulnerable, a feeling that I acutely dislike, just as much as I dislike my sister. I wouldn't say hate, that's a strong word to use against Jennifer, but I dislike her.
I don't want to go to that house, wouldn't ever call it home because it never felt like it. I was always an intruder there, and always will be, an unwelcome guest whom fate decided to mess with. It's etched on Jennifer's face everytime she looks at me.
I glance at the burned out stub between my fingers, now stained with the burgundy of my lipstick. I throw it down and stamp on it, glancing at my watch. 16 more hours till my life would change forever......16 more hours till I would leave this city.
Sighing, I look around me, taking in every detail, from the trees that lined both sides of the path to the fairy lights hanging from them casting a dim but ineffably beautiful light. I want to hang onto this moment, this peaceful and calm moment, this present when my demons are asleep.....I want to dwell on this feeling of solitude......But no....Time never stops or waits, for anyone or anything, it just goes on, taking us all with it, unaware of the feelings that it evokes in us, unaware of the destinations, unaware of the purposes......it just goes on. And I, like everybody else, go along with it.
