CHAPTER 1 — The Palace!

Anaya was an intelligent and confident girl from Kashmir. She was good at her studies and took them seriously. Being the only child of her parents, she had always been deeply loved and cared for. She was currently studying in Delhi, but whenever she got a vacation, she loved spending time with her friends and exploring new places.

There was one thing about Anaya that everyone knew very well.

She never believed anything without proof.

Especially when it came to ghosts, spirits, or haunted places.

Since childhood, Anaya had always believed that there was a logical explanation behind everything. Whenever someone told her a story about ghosts or spirits, she would simply laugh it off.

“Ghosts don’t exist,” she would always say. “There has to be a reason behind everything.”

Her best friend, Azra, knew this better than anyone. The two of them were extremely close and shared almost everything.

Anaya, Azra, Maliha, Sana, and Zainab were a group of five close friends. While Anaya was confident and stubborn, Zainab was completely different. Zainab strongly believed in supernatural things and was easily frightened by anything related to ghosts or spirits.

During their college vacation, the five girls decided to go on a trip together.

They wanted to visit somewhere beautiful and spend a few days away from their usual routine.

That was when Anaya remembered a palace she had heard about.

“There’s a palace I’ve heard about,” Anaya said one day while they were discussing where to go. “It’s somewhere deep inside a forest. Apparently, it’s incredibly beautiful.”

“A palace in a forest?” Maliha asked curiously.

Anaya nodded. “Yes. And there’s a lake nearby too. It’s a little far from the palace, but you can actually see it from some of the rooms.”

The idea immediately caught everyone's attention.

But there was something else about the palace.

Everyone had heard the stories.

The palace was famous for being haunted.

People had told countless stories about strange things happening there. Because of those stories, most people avoided going anywhere near it.

Zainab immediately looked uncomfortable.

“No way,” she said. “We're not actually going there, are we?”

Anaya laughed.

“Why not?”

“Because it's haunted!”

“That’s exactly why I want to go.”

Everyone looked at her.

Anaya smiled confidently.

“I'll prove that ghosts and spirits don't exist. You all keep believing these stories without any proof. I'm going there, and I'm going to show you that there's a logical explanation behind everything.”

Azra knew that look on her face.

Once Anaya made up her mind about something, changing it was almost impossible.

The others tried to convince her otherwise, especially Zainab, but Anaya refused to change her decision.

And because Anaya was loved not only by her parents but also by her friends, they eventually agreed.

After getting permission from their parents, the five girls prepared for the trip.

A few days later, they finally set off.

The journey itself was exciting. They talked, laughed, listened to music, and enjoyed being together. Zainab, however, remained slightly nervous about the palace.

As they got closer, the surroundings became quieter.

The road slowly disappeared into the forest.

Tall trees surrounded them from every side, and eventually, through the trees, they saw it.

The palace.

For a moment, even Zainab forgot about the stories.

It was beautiful.

The old architecture, the enormous structure, the surrounding forest, and the peaceful atmosphere made it look almost unreal.

“This is actually beautiful,” Azra said softly.

Anaya smiled proudly.

“Told you.”

They entered the palace and began exploring.

The rooms were spacious and beautifully designed. The old walls and architecture gave the place a royal feeling. From some of the rooms, the lake could be seen in the distance, surrounded by the forest.

For the first few hours, everything was completely normal.

Nothing strange happened.

They explored the palace, talked among themselves, and enjoyed the place. Anaya was especially happy because, according to her, the palace was already proving her point.

“See?” she said. “Nothing happened.”

Zainab didn't answer.

She still couldn't shake the strange feeling she had about the place.

As evening slowly arrived, the palace became quieter.

The girls had dinner together and then decided to go to their respective rooms.

After a long day of traveling and exploring, they were tired.

One by one, they went to their rooms.

The palace slowly fell silent.

For the first time that day, there were no voices, no laughter, and no footsteps echoing through its long corridors.

Only silence remained.

And none of them knew that their peaceful first day at the palace was only the beginning.
